Pakistan beats India in Indo-Pak school debate contest

Why dint Indians speak for and given chance to speak against to Pakistani students ?

obvious. Indian judges vote for Pakistani students when they speak against their own country.

simple and clear

in other words even the most shining Indian shining institute dint have the stomach to speak for Pakistani stand.

Lady,

Do not always look for shadows even where they may be none.

The children I am sure went back happy & smiling having made some more friends to be in touch with through FB or Twitter and most definitely richer in experience.

Thats all that matters.

the subject was "Why free trade between india and pakistan is not a good idea"

Would love to see a transcript or a video or SOMETHING of this debate.

La Marts is a premier institute, the Pakistanis should be justifiably proud.

So Pakistanis said its not a good idea and Indians said its a good idea?

That's so boring they should have reversed the traditional roles

So you know, each side gets to put itself in the other person's shoe and think like them.

That is a great idea @Awesome. That would have been really challenging.
If if it did happen as Joe says; that is rather stereo-typical.

College Debaters Encourage Indo - Pak School's Debate - CoolAge

The moment a person enters into debate trials for college, he/she is taught to forget debating as it were, in school. The reason given is that Matter should now be prioritized instead of Manner. In order to bridge this gap The Debating Society of India led by a Hindu College Alumna – Mr. Deepak Verma and the winner of Hindu-Stephens Titans Cup Debate, decided to organize the Indo-Pak School's Debate in collaboration with the Debating Society of Pakistan. This debate called upon the fine schools from both the countries to participate. The finals, held between La- Martiniere, Calcutta and SICAS- Salamat International Campus for Advanced Studies, Lahore at Siri Fort Auditorium in Delhi on 4th April 2013, was judged by University of Delhi adjudicators namely, Tarang Tripathi and Uday Singh Rana from Hindu College and Apurv Sathe from Kirori Mal College.

When asked about the verdict, Apurv Sathe said, "It was a good debate on the topic of whether free trade between India and Pakistan will benefit India more than Pakistan, but the verdict was pretty clear in favour of SICAS by the end of it." The Hindu Judges were fairly decided on their decision too. However, on being asked regarding the initiative, they responded by saying, "There is a need to increase "Perspectivism" and such debates do exactly the same, especially amongst the young generation."

Tarang Tripathi, who also helped in the substantives of the debate held a firm view that since the school debating culture is not at its best in India even with the most premier school, there is a need to strive for better training and similar initiatives from the college debating community.

For a stepping stone, it would be worth congratulating the inception of such an endeavor and hope many more are seen in the days to come!

this reminds about a news about a debate in which Indian team was tasked to defend the argument "Britain is greater than India as country" and British team was tasked to counter this argument

Is La Marts that good?

BTW congrats to Pakistani team

La Martiniere is good, though I'm not an Alumnus!
The SICAS team must have performed well. I remember Suhasini Haider (of CNBC-IBN) travelling to Pakistan and meeting with school children (teenagers) there. She had discussions with them. They displayed both clarity of thought and felicity in articulation; which left me really impressed. The SICAS team must be cast in the same mold.

Agree with you 100%. it would have made a difference. We were taught, back in the day, NOT to take the side we thought right, but the other, and to argue for it with logic, not emotion.

Why do only Pakistanis come to India? Why not Indians go there? It would have been very interesting if there was a debate between Indian school and Pakistani School in Pakistan.

Any way congrats to Pakistan.
