Pakistan army a stakeholder in dialogue with India: Hina Rabbani Khar

The Pakistan army was a stakeholder in the dialogue process with India, foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar said and assured that Islamabad had granted the most favoured nation (MFN) status to India.

Khar told mediapersons in Lahore on Saturday that MFN status to India had been granted with the approval of the federal cabinet with the assurance that India would waive non-tarrif barriers as part of the dialogue process.

On confidence building measures with India, she said that New Delhi had assured Islamabad that it would not block Pakistan's way in preferential market access by the European Union unlike it had done in the past, reported Associated Press of Pakistan.

She said the army was a stakeholder in the dialogue process with India.

All institutions are supportive of the idea of improving relations with India, she added.

With reference to Kashmir, the foreign minister said that Pakistan desired result-oriented dialogue with India. The country had achieved much more than expected during the dialogue process.

She said that stability in the region was of primary importance to Pakistan as its role was proactive in building relations with neighboring countries.

Khar said: "Promoting relations and enhancing economic as well as political ties with countries like Turkey, Afghanistan and India are the corner-stone of country's foreign policy."

Calling the country's membership of the UN Security Council (UNSC) an achievement, she said it had dispelled the impression that Pakistan was isolated among the comity of nations.

The victory in the Security Council election by three-fourth majority was a tangible proof that Pakistan was a matured and responsible state in the world.

Pakistan's proactive role in the sixth summit dialogue in Turkey as well as the trilateral dialogue in Afghanistan was another proof of Pakistan's desire to promote regional peace, said Khar.

She said that Pakistan sought good neighbourly relations with all the countries in the region and would also reach out to other countries to promote peace and harmony in South Asia.

Foreign Policy? Yes Army.
Pakistan govt. is incapable as has been shown in its four year regime.

That`s not fair play of army, when pakistan deals with India army stands equal in foreign affairs but in front of America same army cry foul at govt. not undrstandable..

Atleast some decision has been made...:victory::victory:
Hope this one is final as it is good for us and for them also...

Are you sure??????

This is such a confusing hierarchy and even with decision like MFN status nobody knows who really calls the shots. The constant flip flop in policy points to overlap in decision remits.

Pakistani army should just appoint an interlocutor or an observer to Indo-Pak peace initiatives and negotiations , and they should be made to directly air their views rather than try to sabotage every positive development. With the power-holders in Pakistan's Government well known , we should do away with established norms , if we are to reach some kind of mutual compromise.

i think india should directly start negotiating with the pak army on all key issues , the civilian never seems to have any stake in the decision making process

Are you sure??????

well I read here in another thread that army not taking action against US drones & missiles b`cose govt. not ordering them to do so, and all pakistani members accused elected govt. like anything there...

Its a big Joke from Rabbani.. Everyone knows in the world that Pakistan Army is one and only stakeholder in Pakistan..
Entire Pakistan foreign policy decided by Pak Army.

Okay! what are we trying to establish here?

Reference of PA in relation to India - Is it not well established already? and do we not all know about this?

Its one line in Khar`s statement. To me it means that granting MFN status also has support of PA. So are you all complaining is it a bad thing then?

In principle its agreeable that relations should be solemnly defined by civilian governments. That should be the norm in any country of modern world. Unfortunately civilian governments in Pakistan (past & current politicians) have been incapable of defining sensitive issues and taking decisions on them both internally & externally.

With the new situation of political chess board, one can be hopeful to see all that change in near future inshAllah. With that, we can then hope all of state responsibilities should fall to their respective quarters.
