LAHORE: The world is rating Pakistan among failed states and repeated military interventions have forced Baloch nationalists to seek foreign support against the country, which is an alarming situation, chief of the Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday.

He was addressing a gathering after the balloting for yellow cabs in the city.

Nawaz Sharif said that the government was proceeding on policies devised by a dictator regime (the Musharraf government), adding that it was the outcome of those policies which had put the country on the world map as a failed state.

Criticising the government for the country’s growing isolation on the international level, he said that issues such as corruption, extremism, terrorism, low rate of growth of economy, stoppage of development work and unemployment were still unresolved, creating a multi-dimensional crisis in the country.

Stressing the need for adopting a culture of accountability, he said that it was necessary to rise above personal interests and work for the promotion of national interest.

Giving the example of the PML-N, he said that his party was far more responsible in this regard as it had sacked two of its legislators on corruption charges.

Accusing President Asif Ali Zardari of promoting his “own and party’s interests”, he said that instead of setting a good precedent, President Zardari’s action had pushed the country “on the brink of destruction”.

“We should save the country from Zardari’s corruption, ” he said.

Highlighting the contribution of Baloch nationalist leaders such as Attaullah Mengal and Mir Hasil Bizenjo in abolishing the 8th Amendment, he said that they had played a very active role along with him and Benazir Bhutto in this regard, adding that Balcoh nationalists should more often be allowed to play a constructive role for the sake of the country.

Criticising the government, he said that instead of assimilating Baloch nationalists into the national political mainstream, the rulers had pushed “sons of Baloch nationalists to seek asylum in foreign countries and…work against the country”.

There “is chaos in three provinces”, he said, “but the federal government is engaged in hatching conspiracies against Punjab”, trying to destabilise the provincial government and devising way to divide the province. Rejecting criticism over his party’s role as being a “friendly opposition”, he said he and his party “played the role of a genuine opposition by launching anti-government agitation such as the long march”.

Zardari, he said, had tried to disqualify him and his brother through courts and even imposed governor rule in Punjab and even now “he and his party are engaged in efforts to weaken the Punjab province”. He warned Zardari to refrain from “all malicious activities”.

They are BIGGEST BIAGHARAT, don't want to take initiatives but accusing. They are protected from feelings of SHAME.

Nawaz Sharif appearing to be the only leader who by core of his heart against the military interventions into national policy matters..

pakistan has given a lot of importance to its defence and army despite this they have not been able to gain a lot of it ,1971 and the current security condition in pakistan itself is an evidence of how well its army has performed ,time has come when they need to concentrate more on economic , social and educational reforms, by doing so they will atleast manage to come out of the failed category which includes nations like somalia and nigeria......

our nation is failing due to corrupt inept leaders! we were ahead of india for 50 years in terms of everything! india opened up in early 90s and since then never looked back! we will have our time soon people are waking up and will bring about change if not this generation surely the one growing up!

I did read somewhere......some country in our neighbourhood has more poor than the whole of Africa.!!
Perhaps, it should stop dreaming of becoming some micro power and concentrate on feeding it's poor.

yes your neighbour has more poor than africa , though these numbers are exaggerated still you would not find that neighbour in that list of failed states , something you need to think about.

I sincerely hope so! But would the Establishment allow change to happen? There are too many vested interests at work. Until and unless this mindset changes for the better it will just be more of the same even another 50 years from now!

A paradigm shift in the psyche of those who rule (and those who spread fundamentalism to radicalize society), is easier said than done. Can you name any leader or statesman in Pakistan who can turn things around?

I dont agree that Pakistan is a failed state period. You can call a flower by whatever name its smells just as sweet (think it was iqbal said that and pope)

Corruption is the evil in our midst that needs to be sorted out. None of the present political parties has clean hands. And Indians are no better in this they have their own corrupt officials.

^^^^^^^^ countries like yemen and kenya are better of pakistan

It matters only this forum these statistics and people spouting crap. Tell me a poor child hungry does he care. Yemen, Kenya, Pakistan and India all have children who are hungry and dont give a damn what statistics or these self appointed corrupt leaders say, they dont even care for democracy or human rights they just want a plate of rice. Shame on all of us.

India population = 1.2 billion.
Sub-Saharan Africa population = 800 million.

You can see the difference in population.
We will be superpower and that day we will also thanking to pakistan for their hate and arrogance.

No, because our neighbours country is so modern and peaceful :D. All children have so much food to eat, there is so much religious harmony there that every few years everybody burns down a few mosques, jolly good fun innit. At least half of the judges of the Supreme Court are corrupt, but i mean you are a democracy so everything is allowed right. Ah Pakistanis, how you must envy the Global superpower India :enjoy:
