The Indian govt has taken a very hard stance on the constant threat of nukes from Pakistan. This is not stupid, it is a new stance by a new govt.
The problem:
‘Pakistan has built low-yield nuclear weapons to counter Indian aggression’ - - DAWN.COM
The reason why you have been seeing a lack of any assertiveness from India after numerous attacks on India is due to two reasons-
1. The UPA was extremely useless.
2. Due to point 1, the Indian military had become lax because no new weapons purchases were made.
Due to some important events, a lot of things have changed.
-The war reserves had come down drastically due to constant exercises and the setting up new army groups in the east.
-And you have been constantly hearing news about depleting squadrons.
-The army leaked a letter from the army chief to the MoD which said the Indian SAMs were obsolete. The obsolescence rate was 97%.
So, the new govt has now started changing things dramatically. The war reserves are up by 110%, maybe more. They canceled one MMRCA line and have replaced that with 2 MMRCA lines. So MMRCA requirement has roughly tripled from the initial 126. And finally, to counter the nuke threat and to dissuade China, the govt has decided to purchase the S-400 SAM system along with giving more importance to the Indian BMD. This S-400 system will be more advanced than what was sold to China.
We are also planning on developing tactical artillery and missile defence with the Israelis, like the Iron Dome, an Iron Dome 2 if you will. It will move along with the strike corps and protect them from tactical nukes launched using Nasr.
The driving force behind this new zeal was the nuke threat from Pakistan. The plan is to increase conventional military capability against Pakistan to such a high level, that any future war won't even be called a war.
Basically, your govt has changed the game, the article refers to it as the 'pro-active' strategy. It is obvious that we will show greater conventional aggression as a reaction to this new 'pro-active' strategy. And denying PAF the use of their own airspace is part of our strategy to counter Pakistan's new doctrine. Expecting India to not react to this in anyway is fallacy.
The Indian has taken the stance of making conventional war for Pakistan entirely impossible. Eventually, even nuclear war will become entirely impossible for Pak over the next few years. A new strategy is in place for India to deal with Pakistan and it is working.
Our biggest success has been the isolation of Pakistan in the international community. And Modi's charisma has helped a lot in that respect. The Americans are taking the F-16 issue that India has raised so seriously that it is directly affecting our relationship with them. It was unthinkable even a few years ago.
