Ahead of his meeting with President Barack Obama, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today sought US intervention in resolving the Kashmir issue.

"Though India did not want such (third party) intervention, but the world powers should get involved to resolve the (Kashmir) issue," he told reporters in London during a stopover while on his way to US wherein he will meet Obama on Wednesday.

"India and Pakistan both were nuclear powers and the region was a nuclear flash point," state-run APP news agency quoted the prime minister as saying.

Replying to a query on Kashmir, Sharif said during his US visit in July 1999 amid Kargil conflict, he had clearly told then President Bill Clinton that if the US intervened, Kashmir issue could be resolved.

"I told him if he spends 10 per cent of the time he was spending on Middle East, the Kashmir issue between two countries would resolve," he said, adding that President Clinton promised, but then things changed.

Even though Pakistan is keen that US intervenes, Washington has repeatedly said that India and Pakistan should determine the "pace, scope and character" of their dialogue.

Sharif said for the last 60 years both sides were entangled in an arms race. "The situation can become dangerous. India has nuclear bomb, so do we; India develops missiles, so do we. There should be a limit to it. We all should think about it," he was quoted as saying.

The Prime Minister also said he will raise the issue of US drone strikes during his meeting with Obama.

"Pakistan raised its concern in UNGA meeting, and the world appreciated it. Again in my official visit to US I will reiterate the same message," he said.

Key bilateral issues besides the Afghan drawdown and Indo-Pak ties are likely to be discussed during his keenly awaited meeting with Obama.

This will be the first bilateral official visit of the Prime Minister to the US in his present term.

It is also the first official visit of a Pakistani Prime Minister to the US in 5 years. Sharif had visited New York last month but it was for the UN General Assembly.

Again I would say USA always makes use of India-Pakistan clashes

Giant USA will never do good to you both

What Pakistanis missing here is that what is India going to gain by 'solving' Kashmir as per Pakistani wishes?

Let us say, Kashmir is 'solved' according to Pakistani wishes, then would Pakistan snap all its ties with China permanently, and drastically reduce its military to a point only to oversee its internal issues, and depend on Indian armed forces for external aggression. If the answer to the above questions are no, then India's concern regarding Pakistan as a security threat remains and India gets nothing out of 'solving' Kashmir as per Pakistani wishes.

LOL..and while Nawaz is doing this,Pakistanis are chanting Anti-American Slogans in the Streets..what a Drama.. :omghaha:

by the way,Taliban gave enough reason to USA to fly drones over Pakistan.looks like Nawaz is giving another one to fly over Kashmir now.I wonder what foothold they'll use.will they use Af Airbase??or is it Sugar Daddy going to be back on Pakistani land again?? :omghaha:

Damn! Why don't nawAz take advice from his minister , rana or pana ? i don't know his name, who was saying pakistan should use force to take back kashmir ? :what: Why don't just unleash the martial mard-e-momin army rather then begging in front of USA to mediate ? I mean who is the dehati women complaining now ? :what: And as for this begging from US about kashmir is concerned!
I just have to say this :- No matter who u beg or what u do, in the end milega tumhe sirf "Baba ji ka Thullu!!" :D

NS is saying this for the consumption of gullible Pakistanis. It is totally, and 100% against the interests of USA to have any Indo-Pak issue resolved, let alone Kashmir. On the contrary it is vitally important for US arms industries and international bankers that Indo-Pak differences increase.

same goes For china as well !!!because it want to be Asianpower thats why it create misunderstanding btw pak and india For statisfying itz strategical goals;) Sometime takes pak sides but in some cases it cast out itself like kargil war etc and kasmir issue

Pakistan gets their weapons from China and India from Russia.....so if conspiracy theory goes then Russia and China has more interest in keeping the Indo Pak differences especially China who aspires to become the Asian overlord and it serves their interest that India is bogged down in their neighbourhood.
