Pak Responds: FO call's Mullen's bluff, No evidence shared with us.

Khar is an intelligent and articulate individual, considered to be on the liberal side with respect to Pakistani politics, a woman, and so far does not have the 'ill repute' of Rehman and Mukhtar.

Her comments probably carry more weight internationally and domestically than the other two.

She is also better placed to argue Pakistan's case internationally, given the reasons mentioned in the beginning of my post.
Khar is definitely a learned lady no doubt but her young age is a barrier. She was selected for the post due to her close family ties with Pakistani politicians.

That Pakistan is protecting Haqqanis is almost a certainty--for a post-America era in Afghanistan to counter India. But that the Pakistani govt. agencies like ISI would use Haqqani to target no less than an American embassy makes no sense whatsoever.

I don't know why the likes of Mullens and Panetta are so publicly venomous against Pakistan. Probably they need to 'blame' someone. They need one more 'Cambodia'. This may well be all about careerism. About saving face. About leaving some 'legacy'.

when was Pakistan an ally to start with, its a transactional relationship and Pakistan is only cleaning its own house up, your lucky you still have people on your side.

when was Pakistan an ally to start with,
Neutralizing hundreds of AQ high and mid-level leaders since 9/11, including important operational leaders such as KSM, Libbi, Mauritani etc.

Providing free transit rights to the NATO forces through Pakistan, as well as logistical support (which is supposedly paid for by the US after Pakistan incurs the costs, with no interest charged).

Carrying out military operations along most of the Afghan Pakistan border to coordinate with US offensives on the Afghan side.

Intelligence cooperation and tips provided to the US and Europe regarding terrorists plots against those countries, based on information obtained from individuals arrested in Pakistan.

Incurring tens of thousands dead and tens of billions in economic losses because of an ill conceived and planned war and invasion of Afghanistan ...

Now what has the US done for Pakistan as an 'ally'?

Sheltered most wanted Baluch terrorists in Afghanistan and assisted in their relocation to Switzerland to obtain asylum?

Caused over $60 billion in economic losses through an ill conceived and planned war in Afghanistan

Caused tens of thousands of casualties in Pakistan as a result of an ill conceived and planned war i Afghanistan.

Allowed Taliban terrorists to shelter in Eastern Afghanistan and enable them to carry out attacks into Pakistan and reverse the gains made through military operations in Dir, Bajaur and Mohmand.

When Pakistan had lost 4 wars to India how would they think they match America. When America comes with its mighty force most people would $hit in their pants. Least of them generals.

Dude.. the news report is about our foreign minister warning US that they will lose PK as their Ally if things continue as they are.. she did not say .. you behave otherwise we will bomb you.

I put it explicitly because I see that with you comprehension seems to be a problem. Take some vitamins and watch fewer mithun-da classics

US gains nothing by losing Pakistan as an ally but Pakistan has a lot to lose with US turning it's back. They weild enough clout against almost all countries in this world. You can see it clearly when they easily got the NSG and IAEA waiver for India during the nuclear deal and imposed sanctions on Iran with impunity.

One must also know that US is ready to invest a large amount of cash in Pakistani power sector, the Hydel power projects with the help of both US and China will be completed in 50% of the time required if it is done only by China it will take longer. And as more time is spent the demand is also increased.

The other major thing is the ability of US to harass economic lines and the OIC from outsided that even Pakistan can be isolated from OIC.

Above all China is not willing to give you any hard cash... you an see that they contributed the least to Pakistan in terms of hard cash.

Welcome to USAID/Pakistan

This site might help enlighten you the amount of aid that US is spending in Pakistan....And if Mrs. Khar there told it, it must be nothing more than lip service.

The most telling fact in that clip is that Ms Khar could not categorically state that what Mullen said was incorrect. All she said was that the evidence has not been shared. BIG difference.

And....... What did Mullen say? :D

Also nothing.

Well, Mullen said that the recent attack on the US embassy in Kabul was carried out by the Haqqani Network, which is an arm of the ISI.

Seems pretty clear to me.

As SpArKs fly, Pakistan warns U.S.: "You will lose an ally"

r

Reuters) - Pakistan warned the United States it risks losing an ally if it continued to accuse Islamabad of playing a double game in the war against militancy, escalating the crisis in relations between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar was responding to comments by U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen, who said Pakistan's top spy agency was closely tied to the Haqqani network, the most violent and effective faction among Islamic Taliban militants in Afghanistan.

It is the most serious allegation leveled by the United States against nuclear-armed and Muslim-majority Pakistan since they began an alliance in the "war on terror" a decade ago.

"You will lose an ally," Khar told Geo TV in New York in remarks broadcast on Friday.

"You cannot afford to alienate Pakistan, you cannot afford to alienate the Pakistani people. If you are choosing to do so and if they are choosing to do so it will be at their (the United States') own cost."

Mullen, speaking in Senate testimony, alleged Haqqani operatives launched an attack last week on the U.S. embassy in Kabul with the support of Pakistan's military intelligence.

The tensions could have repercussions across Asia, from India, Pakistan's economically booming arch-rival, to China, which has edged closer to Pakistan in recent years.

A complete break between the United States and Pakistan -- sometimes friends, often adversaries -- seems unlikely, if only because Washington depends on Pakistan for supply routes to U.S. troops fighting militants in Afghanistan, and as a base for unmanned U.S. drones.

Pakistan relies on Washington for military and economic aid and for acting as a backer on the world stage.

"The message for America is: 'They can't live with us, they can't live without us," Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani told reporters.

But support in Congress for curbing assistance or making conditions on aid more stringent is rising rapidly.

The unilateral U.S. Navy SEALs raid that killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan in May took already fragile relations between Pakistan and the United States to a low.

Relations were just starting to recover before the Kabul attack. Both sides are now engaged in an unusually blunt public war of words.

The dangers could be enormous if Washington and Pakistan, a largely dysfunctional state teeming with Islamist militants and run by a feckless, military-cowed government, fail to arrest the deterioration in relations.

At stake are the fight against terrorism, the security of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal and - as Islamabad plays off its friendship with China against the United States - regional stability.

HUMILIATION

"Anything which is said about an ally, about a partner, publicly to recriminate it, to humiliate it, is not acceptable," said Khar.

The United States has long pressed Pakistan to go after the Haqqani network, which it believes operates from sanctuaries in North Waziristan on the Afghan border.

Pakistan says its army is too stretched fighting its own Taliban insurgency. But analysts say the Islamabad government regards the Haqqanis as a way to exert its influence on any future political settlement in Afghanistan.

The Haqqani network, Mullen said, is a "veritable arm" of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence agency (ISI).

The charges come amid mounting exasperation in Washington as the Obama administration struggles to curb militancy in Pakistan and end the long war in Afghanistan.

Mullen, CIA director David Petraeus and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton all have met with their Pakistani counterparts in recent days to demand Islamabad take action against the Haqqani network.

Any Pakistani offensive against the Haqqanis would be risky. The group has an estimated 10,000-15,000 seasoned fighters at its disposal and analysts say the Pakistani army would likely suffer heavy casualties.

Mahmud Durrani, a retired major general and former Pakistani ambassador to Washington, said both sides should ease tensions to avoid American military action beyond drone strikes or economic sanctions.

"There's a possibility. It's wide open. But it will be absolutely, totally disastrous."

And Ahmedinejad said the US is the great Satan - have you invoked St. Michael yet?

Maybe if the Admiral had Pasha on tape ordering the hit - as colleagues before him miraculously also produced a tape of Bin Laden... perhaps he would have presented it.

Have they shied from presenting any evidence against Pakistan that they would shy from it now?

I call shenanigans. Just like the "I killed him and threw him in the sea, don't ask me any evidence" BS they gave us just a few months ago.
