Pak Armed Forces Non-Military Projects

An old but very interesting article. Thought people might find it interesting:

The military boasts that it can run such organisations better than what they view as "incompetent and corrupt civilians".

"Why is anyone jealous if the retired military officers... are doing a good job contributing to the economy?" he said.

Absolutely Right!!

Xeric, can you possibly send the slideshow?

You can download it from here

Just follow the provided link.

Or if you are asking about the latest slides that i have posted, well the entire presentation cannot be made available as it contains certain confidential matters.

This still does not explain how some generals will still end up with the best plots on "lucky draw" in DHA schemes.. while the rest who put in for the scheme including Brigs, Cols.. and Majors.. end up with the trash.
The question is not of the organizations and their contribution... its how they were/are exploited by a few uncouth individuals just as their mirrors in the Civilian tagged organizations(not on the same scale though) are by the many uncouth parties that sit in power.

The question is not of contribution , its of accountability.
And by that I mean accountability within the military.. are there mechanisms to ensure that any cases of fraud caught by the MI are presented before the JAG and dealt in an unbiased manner.

And please try NOT to drag the other institution of Pakistan into this discussion to present a counter point.
Since the argument of "andhon mein Kana raja" makes this discussion pointless.

army haters hate Pak army anyway , no matter how hard it tries to clarify itself but then again the fact of the matter is :-

ChaanD pay ThoOko gaey tou ThoOk apnay he moo pay girta haey ... :azn:

L0ng L|||ve Pak. army ... :sniper:

PakisTan zindabaad ... :pakistan: |I|sLaam paiyndabaad ...

military Inc. An independent entity, where no control of democratic govt. Otherwise these project end up in 10% pocket.

im against projects like these they should do what they have been made to do if you give them a chance to run bussiness than give other organization such as courts police etc to run the bussiness and make money for their organizations anyway im against military making bussiness is rubbish

The SECOND Column would tell B.Brigade how the Defence Budget was 'increasing' every year. i wonder how media (and the B.Brigade) manipulates with the words - '$ xyz increase in the budget 20**', 'Defence Budget to expand again this year' etc etc:

Hi Xeric,

Thanks for the valuable information you provided. It gives a lot of insights into the work of Fauji Foundation.

But the naysayers have a point when it comes to budget allocations. Pakistan's defence allocation now is almost 20% of the national budget. 50% of the resources are consumed between defence and debt servicing. And this is when even bank borrowing is considered as resource. Also this is not including the pensions as the above slides say(The practice is standard, but on the ground, it just means that your army is consuming more).

Besides Musharraff era growth rates are now under scanner. And God knows what the real revenues during the time were. Also remember that the 2007-08 budget was an election budget.

Old thread. But relevant points.

All of them can do whatever they want. For the welfare of one's deptt, they do have the necessary legal rights to run such welfare projects. You do know about National Police Foundation and the plots they received in high value sectors of Isb. Then you have Supreme Court Housing Scheme, Fed Govt Empl Housing Scheme/Society, Federal Cabinet Housing Society, OGRA housing society and i can keep on going.

There is no harm in running such foundations for no profit basis and serving the retired persons of a deptt, problem here in Pakistan is, people misuse such things and ruin it. You do know about the recent ongoing issue in National Police Foundation plot related scandal where the higher ups got lucrative plots for themselves in violations. Army has been running their foundation with success and it has benefited hundreds of thousands of retired personnel, its their success story, which is why it gives a burn in the arses of some in Pakistan and they can't digest it. All of the deptts can do whatever they want to look after their retired ones, but unfortunately they can't run it due to the urge of corruption. DHA is and was a success, Bahria Town copied that model, made some modifications to improve it and it became a huge success, what is stopping the above mentioned govt owned and run housing schemes to become such success, the reason is corruption / misuses, which results in masses not trusting them.

If something is not taking any money from the govt / budget, rather it adds to the national economy through direct & indirect taxes and looks after retired personnel who can rot if not cared after retirement, then what is wrong in that.

And yeah just to add, its run by retired personnel for the retired retired personnel. FF chairman is a retired general and there is a board of governors / members who look after it.
