Very Professional craft
Comes with great rescue gear, origionally I thought this blob on side was a mini radar of sorts but it appears to be a crane system to lift/rescue at sea

Not to mention a great tool against flood rescue which we have lacked for last 10 years
Also Pakistan military makes countless rescues at Mountains where landing is not always best option due to Avalanche risk

Rescue can lift people from Top of mountain/ sea or in fire buildings etc using the rescue tools available on craft a great addition

Massive upgrade over what we had before if we had licence production contract with French for the Alouette craft , we could have done some R&D to convert this into a more modern chopper

Definitely Pak needs a helicopter deal with Italy similar to Algeria's.

I don't see why anyone would object to a Transport helicopter deal with Italy
Pakistan needs to modernize our Helicopter / Transport fleet

Italian Chopper has multiple benefits

a) Top Notch Rescue craft
b) Strategic usage at Sea / Mountain Top Rescue / Flood rescue / Fire rescue above building
c) Anti Terror operation support
d) The size is just right for a good balance between Civilian/Military usage

Alouette , (french helicopter) have been far far too long in Pakistani Military , and a much needed modernization is long over due

Provided Pakistan continues to reimagine the Alouette , to make it look fantastic however
The modern crafts do add a bigger load carrying ability

Are the french Choppers Licenced Produced in Pakistan ?

PAF equips SAR squadron with AW139 helicopter, says report

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has equipped its No 88 search-and-rescue (SAR) squadron with the AgustaWestland AW139 multirole twin-engine helicopter, according to a 3 March report by the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).

Citing a PAF press statement, the state-owned media outlet also reported that the squadron was renamed “No 88 Combat Support Squadron and Advanced Helicopter Training School” following the induction of the platform.

PAF commander Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, who attended a ceremony to mark the event at the Shahbaz Air Base (Jacobabad), was quoted by AAP as saying that the PAF had selected the AW139 “as the most effective solution for our requirements” after an in-depth analysis of the SAR platforms available worldwide.

Pakistan Air Force achieved a significant milestone on Saturday when its No 88 Search & Rescue squadron was re-equipped with AW-139 (Agusta Westland) helicopters.

With the induction of this state of the art helicopter on its inventory, the Search & Rescue squadron has been renamed as No 88 Combat Support Squadron and Advanced Helicopter Training School.

To mark this significant event in the glowing history of PAF, a ceremony was held at PAF Base, Shahbaz (Jacobabad) where Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman was the chief guest.

On this occasion, Air Chief reviewed a smartly turned out guard of honour by the personnel of the Base.

A three-ship formation, comprising 01 MI 171 and 02 AW 139 Agusta helicopters, presented the fly past over the venue.

Addressing at the ceremony, the Air Chief said, “PAF, after an in-depth analysis of the Search & Rescue platforms available worldwide, selected AW-139 as the most effective solution for its requirements. The state-of-the-art machine that we have inducted is a manifestation of stern commitment of the Pakistan Air Force to modernization and capability enhancement. I firmly believe that this will become a stepping stone in achieving more complex capabilities as regard to the Helo fleet.

The AW-139 promises a feature of enhancing PAF capability due to its versatile roles. The vision of taking Helo fleet of PAF into 21st century could not have been achieved any other way”. He further said, “Today, Alhamdulillah; the long awaited vision of PAF to acquire Night and maritime Search & Rescue capability has been achieved with the AW-139 operationalisation”.

The induction of AW-139 helicopters would considerably enhance the operational capabilities of the squadron which was flying vintage MI 171 helicopters earlier. Being a pioneer squadron of AW-139 helicopters in PAF, it would also serve as a conversion unit for the young pilots to train them on this system.

High ranking military officials along with civil dignitaries also attended the ceremony

No, they are not. India produced them under license however, along with SA-315B Lamas.
That experience I think helped them with their domestic helicopter program down the line.
Both Alouette III and L19 were assembled in the Army Aviation workshop at Dhamial in the 70s. Alouette was under license but L19 was not and had a very decent local content. Not many people know about it but was confirmed in the Jane’s Aircraft year book for many years. The fact that they were making the plane without a license was a reason that it was not advertised that much.

Indian got a lot of help from Germans, French and American companies in designing the Dhruv which helped them with indigenous helicopter design capability plus they have economies of scale for helicopters justifying local production. They buy in hundreds and we buy in dozens.

Is there a commonality betweenAW139 and T 129? If so is this an indicator of things to come? Response appreciated.

Is it viable to induct its military version AW139M in Pakistan Army or Airforce?
