Wednesday, July 31, 2013 - This is in reference with the news story regrading fuel tanks jettison by a Pakistan Air Force jet into Indus river in the country’s northwest on Wednesday 25th July 2013 without any loss of life or property on the ground. The incident motivated me to write few lines in praise of PAF pilot who competently tackled the unavoidable situation during his training mission.

Jettisons of these fuel tanks on population could have caused a serious damage to lives and property. Flying is not a sweet cake, and keeping one’s senses in balance and taking cruicial decisions within friction of time during any mishap in the air while flying a fighter plane is a tough task to do and require some extraordiinary mental and physical capabilities.

Whatever the technical reasons of the mishap could be, pilot’s professional competency in making every possible effort to save the PAF aircraft worth billions, and his dedication to assure safety of innocent lives on ground by risking his own life are really commnedable. Hats off to our air warriors.

What exactly happened to the aircraft that the need arose to jettison the tanks at all?

Usually loss of engine power or hydraulics forces the pilot to jettison the excessive weight.

SWABI: Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has denied that a PAF training aircraft crashed into the Indus River and stated that there were no damages or losses, in a press release sent to The Express Tribune.

PAF spokesperson Tariq Mahmood clarified that “a fighter jet aircraft jettisoned its fuel drop tanks due to technical reasons over the river Indus, while on a training mission” in the press release.

Earlier, media reports alleged that a training aircraft of the PAF crashed near Chota Lahore in Swabi and a search operation was underway for two missing pilots.

DPO Swabi, Mian Saeed while speaking to Express News said “The training aircraft crash landed in to the River Indus and we have been able to recover the pieces of the tail-end of the aircraft.”

The ****-pit was still in the water according to the official.

The last time accident was being well secured by the well trained instructor of PAF which tooked away Mushak and manuver it to the nearest base and land it safely.
Although PAF needs to manufacture Super Mushak and convert 50% of the fleet of 149 Mushak into spare parts in order to keep the quality in PAF training. We also need to manufacture on our own K-8s along with future AJT like JF-17 dual seat too.
