PAF at Zhuhai Airshow 2018

Q: Why not develop the K-8P into a lift aircraft with an upgraded engine like the Rolls-Royce Turbomeca Adour and required design modifications, after all that's what they did with the hawk?

The HAWK LIFT will cost us almost the same as buying a JF-17 fighter.

It will solve our lift problem, save cash and may as well turn into an export success?

a nice suggestion and it would be a logical path for PAF, but as we know China already have 2 option L-15 and JL-9G for this role and we can not upgrade K-8 as LIFT alone as K-8 is also a joint project and I think Pakistan have only 10% or 20% share in this project, so the question is: Why would China agree to produce another Advance jet trainer while Hongdu the same company who is the producer of both K-8 and L-15 is already offering later in international market for this role ...??

Trust me, if PAC wants this it'll happen. Chinese don't need to buy it because it'll have a western engine anyway.

I think a K-8 SLEP + upgrade will happen, eventually, but I think they'd be more interested in emulating the L-39NG approach (new parts, new - but same rated -- engine, new avionics, etc) than going the Hawk development route.

The airframe will need modifications and flight testing; which means a few years lost in R&D that the PAF may not be able to afford and based on economies of scale we may not be able to make it cost effective.

Off the shelf solution would be good Hawak would be good could open door for further cooperation.

It doesn't work like that Sonny pak is also co owner of the blueprints IP of the jet so has to be approved by pak even to be use in another jet my child
Btw thats some very far fetch idea India buying the jet about which its bhakts have been doing rundi Rona about

I would like to see that but in real world won't happen :)

Why do you think China which is able reverse engineer the entire fighters cannot clone the blue prints?

Yes. It is just my idea. It requires a leader with foresight to make it happen.

If we want a true local aeronautical industry, then the process of modifications and flight testing will need to be repeated frequently. This creates an economy of scale for the process itself.

K-8 assembly line in Pakistan has shut down since all resources diverted for JF-17 manufacture. PAF was evaluating LIFT aircraft when JF-17B was not intended but since there was a need from some prospective clients it was eventually developed and the JF-17B can meet the lift role for PAF, no need for another platform. China will prefer marketing JL-9 because of F-7 commonality and aircraft carrier training capability whereas JL-15 is good for training of future generation aircraft pilots.

JF-17 for LIFT

If K-8 line has been shut down then who's delivering the remaining order?

K-8 assembly line in Pakistan has been shut down but there are final assembly lines in China and Egypt (for kits). PAC Kamra assembly line facilities converted for added JF-17 production capacity and Pakistan still probably continues to make K-8 sub assemblies as well as earn proceeds from sales.

AVIC promotional brochure lists JF-17B as a trainer with full front line capability.

Huzoor, the concept of LIFT is to introduce the students with transonic flight.

JF-17 is a training platform but its suitable for fighter convention and supersonic training.

PAF has a due order for K-8Ps.

China doesn't need to as it co owns the blueprint sonny but thing is we r partners in it and China doesn't need to damage just to sell few jets to Indian nor Indian will ask for it as would be slap on their face for which they also be paying for
proving tejas is a failure

As u said its your idea and as any reasonable person would say a very stupid one deary :)
