What's new

PAF and Saturation Bombings.

What about the Turks they operate some. LM may ask us for Uncle Sams nod, depends on his mood.
No, only original manufacturer (LM) are able to modify the aircraft so that it won't just hit the ground when you go into the air. Remember dropping a bomb out of the back of the aircraft is a lot easier than integrating hardpoints on the C-130.

Why not just integrate a few dozen 250kg GEK on the aircraft with 100km range for strategic bombing? Lockheed Martin would be needed in any case.
Because you need to hit, turn back and get to safety of air cover or be destroyed, its that simple. The other side is not exactly taking selfies while we are at it but scrabbling its caps towards you. PAF used Mac 2 Mirages to strike, turn back and get to the safety of its Fighter cover for a reason. The supersonic strike fighters are used because they can get there quickly with just as fast fighter escort and fight their way out of the contested area. Thats why complete airsuperiority/ Air cover is required if C130s are ever to get close to the border for any meaningful strike but a half baked kamikaze death mission just to drop a few conventional bombs.

Can't you drop from behind LOC with SAMs covering any attempt to breach into LOC? Integrate GPS coordinates into REK and drop all of them behind border towards various strategic targets.

In the era of smart weapons the concept of saturation bombings or carpet bombings is rapidly becoming obsolete. It has also become a war crime as of Article 51 of the 1977 Protocol 1 of the Geneva Conventions to bomb indiscriminately on areas containing a concentration of civilians.
Nevertheless we have seen in the recent decades how the Americans used the concept of saturation bombings very effectively on military formations in the Afghan and Gulf wars. There is not even a shadow of doubt, if given a chance they will exercise the same in the future theaters of war. Americans are still managing to keep a bulk of their 70 years old Stratofortresses air worthy equipped with JDAMs and MOABs(maybe).

PAF in recent decades focused more on air defence roles and platforms. The deep strike and interdiction roles were handed over to the strategic command. Although i do feel we need dedicated heavier platforms for close support and concentration bombings to supplement our NASRs and field artillery. The psychological impact of metal raining from the sky and hitting the ground is unimaginable. I have seen battle hardened Iraqis and Taliban fleeing from their bunkers in droves ,miles away from the impact area.
PAF in the past have used Hercules and B57s for similar roles.

Our Mirages are potent aircraft but their air frames are getting older and their load capacity is depreciating.

Our Multi role F16s are primarily dedicated for air defence roles to cater for a much larger enemy.

Though we dont have the same luxury as the Americans, there maybe some cheaper alternatives. I always loved the versatility and adaptability of the rugged and reliable C 130.
Since we have been operating C 130s for more than five decades,we dont have any operational and maintenance issues with them.Currently Uncle Sam is nice to us ,i wonder if we can get a hand on few of them under EDA. There are hundreds of C130s parked in the Arizona Boneyard waiting for some one to pick them(Maybe PAF?).

This is a nightmare for India. Indian military needs to relocate their bases far away from the border with Pakistan.

Imagine our squadrons of C 130s loaded with GPS guided REK or SOWs under taking saturation bombings on enemy armoured formations. Our Navy is using vintage Orions loaded with Harpoons. The Orion below is loaded with MK-20 Rockeye cluster bombs for the US Navy.

Exactly what I was thinking for C-130 with REK MK 82 but wingspan 1/3 longer so carrying capacity should be enhanced by 5-6 bombs.

I think maybe 10-12 could be carried below fuselage and 5 or so on wings. Maybe 20 total could be used?

100km range is sufficient for hitting most bases within fairly close proximity to LOC.

if we had some money for new aircraft. Y-20 for transport would be perfect and perhaps H series new Bombers from china the stealth ones. H-8k think they are called but pockets empty no luck.

Y-20 still need a escort and do you mean H-6K there is no H-8K in PLAAF, and its only usefull when its will be on Baluchistan near to GAWADER/PASNI/ to launch CM not from forward air bases like in sindh or in Punjab @Foxtrot Delta

H6 is old. Im talking about the new super heavy stealth bomber they are about to unveil in 2020

C130 or similar planes will have a very limited scope and would not like to waste resources in this form.

Currently we are facing Rafale issue
we need F-16 bk70 & bk-V up gradation from USA
saturation bombing scenarios are now absolute

I wish Pakistan can get hands on them ,but i think we cant buy them because of NPT. India has been lately buying some variants of Tupolev bombers from russia for maritime roles. Regarding H6Ks they are not that bad provided we get them, and update them on our specs (H6Ps).
