.
Earlier during the visit by RAF Airchief to the PAF, both air forces NO 9 Squadrons were amalgamated as sister units.
Later PAF Chief also visited Royal College of defence studies and delivered a lecture on security Dynamics of South Asia.

During his visit to the PAF, The Royal Air Force’s Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Hillier, was given a flight in No 9 Squadron F-16.

. . .
That had already transpired when the PAF Chief took a flight in a EF Typhoon....mercifully Tornadoes are on their last legs.
All UK service chiefs have visited Pakistan this year and now our Air Chief is in London. Things are getting interesting let see and please don't try to give me the story of normal visits.

ISLAMABAD: Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force visited the historic No 9 Squadron of Royal Air Force and flew an exercise training mission in Tornado fighter jet of this prestigious squadron at Royal Air Force Base Marham, UK.

On his arrival at the base, he was briefed about the operational activities and the glorious history of this elite squadron.

The event was significant as the same squadron was declared the twin of the elite No 9 squadron of Pakistan Air Force in a twinning ceremony held at PAF Base, Mushaf earlier this year.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Hillier, Chief of Air Staff Royal Air Force had attended this landmark event and had also participated in an exercise training mission with No 9 Sqn of Pakistan Air Force.

Earlier, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force called on Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Hillier, Chief of Air Staff Royal Air Force at Ministry of Defence, London. Various matters of professional and mutual interest were discussed during the meeting.

Talking about the internal security situation of the country, the Air Chief highlighted the contributions of Pakistan Armed Forces and particularly accentuated PAF’s role in the successful conduct of operations against terrorists.

He also emphasized the importance of mutual exercises between two air forces to benefit from each other experiences.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Hillier appreciated PAF’s unmatched professionalism and its pivotal role in eradicating the menace of terrorism from the country.

The Air Chief also visited Royal College of Defence Studies and delivered a lecture on the topic of “South Asia Security Dynamics: Pivot to World Peace”.

Addressing at the occasion, the Air Chief highlighted the success of Pakistan’s model of counter terrorism in routing out the menace of terrorism from the country.

He added that our efforts of bringing the tribal population into mainstream has paid dividends and paved the path to long lasting peace in the area.

He also highlighted the need for reconciliation in Afghanistan to reach political stability and peace in the region.

He termed CPEC as a game changer which would usher in a new era of economic stability and progress in Pakistan and the region.

He also interacted with the faculty and students of this esteemed institution and urged the students to get maximum benefit from this valuable course. It is also pertinent to mention that the Air Chief is a proud alumnus of this prestigious institution.

Thanks for the posts. I hope we don’t have 10 page discussion on PAF inducting Tornado fighters
The Tornado was evaluated in the early 1990s by the OC of No.14 squadron (he was amongst the 2nd batch of F-16 IPs trained at Luke AFB in the mid 1980s), when they were flying F-16s at that time, and they ruled out the Tornado due to its unit and maintenance costs.

A good number of PAF instructors who flew the aircraft in the Middle East and Zimbabwe, kept insisting PAF to buy Hawks for the FCU/OCU role as it is an excellent jet trainer but that advice was not taken seriously by AHQ.

WhTs up with this chief. ?
Why does he go around flying machines that have no chance of induction or role in PAF...?
Joyrider ??

Hi I’ll not try to give you the story of normal visit but can you elaborate about the retirement time for PAF chief as he might be visiting different countries as a last leg of his tenure stunt
Thanks for your input

There are two issues.

1. Relative to the cost, the AHQ doesn't consider dedicated LIFT/FCU platforms a priority. Some months ago Alan Warnes said the PAF will use FT-7Ps in that role, he was even unsure about the JF-17B (taking on FCU)! Still, the Hawk, M-346, etc are pretty expensive, e.g. 18-24 such planes could run $700 m to $1 bn (albeit with support for 10 or so years).

These FCU/LIFT jets make sense for air forces built on $80-100 m F-16s and $250-300 m Typhoons, but the $30 m Block-II or $40-45 m Block-III? I'd keep an eye on though is the L-159, it's cheaper than the Hawk, T-50, etc.

2. Britain, which - like the US - has been a mixed-bag in terms of being a defence supplier to Pakistan.

The Lynx helicopter saga of the late 1990s was not taken lightly by the armed forces as a whole (esp. the Navy).

Efforts have been underway as of late to normalize defence ties, e.g. Kelvin Hughes radars for the PN's submarines, refurbishing Sea Kings, having Cavalier Group work with Jankel to design the Hamza-series, etc. Even Leonardo's Vixen AESA radar offer for the Block-III required some measure of regulatory approval from the UK (as Selex ES is based in the UK).
