Padma Bridge: Target to generate 1,600C a year in tolls

This bridge will be a game changer for the economy of the SW and the people living there.

It will return many times the cost of building it. As well as tolls the extra economic activities and tax revenues to the government on the back of this.

Same for nearly all other construction projects in BD.

No "white elephants" projects in BD unlike some other countries.

If the toll collected alone is sufficient to pay the repayments of any borrowed money that will be very good. It will effectively mean that that part of the loan doesn't exist (conceptually) as in the governent doesn't have to service the loan from it's coffers collected from other sources. Basically the bridge will pay off itself.

All these people whinging about BD taking on debt to build infrastructure have not the faintest idea about basic economics.

A lot of it will give instant payback in the form of tolls and tariff payments.

Over the long-term they will pay their cost back many times due to both the cost to use them and their output but in extra economic activities they will generate.

In essence it will cost BD more money not to build them.

While I understand their argument that taking on debt to build infrastructure is burdensome but they don't offer an alternative. For example, if BD needs electricity, if we don't have our own funds to build a power plant what do we do? Live without electricity? If we need to build a bridge to improve the lives of our people and the economy what do we do? Don't borrow and don't build the bridge? Criticism needs to be constructive, it can involve offering an alternative which is arguably better. Criticism without an alternative doesn't solve any problem, rather it is obstructive to solving problems. Such people by natural course of action are shunned to irrelevance.

Apart from the Russian and some Chinese loans that BD has taken on, the rest are at ultra low interest rates.

There is also a grace period of 5-10 years and repayment terms of 30-40 years.

One day BD will be able to build infrastructure using its own funds but it is not there yet.

Never even heard of this village. Lots of Banglas have settled there so they don't feel homesick?
😂😂😂
Do you mean to say Bengali hindus are doing this????? Didnt know bengali kinda secular hindus are also obsessed with cow feces!

Don't want to insult you but dont you think it has gone two far? Does your scriptures actually ask you do eat and drink cow feces and urine?

I am actually tired of making jokes about this..

You don't seem to spend enough to have enough motor vehicles to go over that bridge

View attachment 857085

There are only 3.1 million motor cycles, 370K cars & 138K trucks, in a supposed "Asian tiger economy" of 165 million?

More like an Asian paper- tiger economy, lol.
We dont have 1lack tata nano or maruti, our cars cost 15 lack minimum.

Only thing you "lack" is a functional brain.

Pretty sure that Indians buy 10X more Mercs/Audis/BMWs/Jaguars than the total number of new cars sold in your country.

The number of motor cycles/ trucks/ buses too are low, and are in fact a fraction of the same in India per capita.

Most of which is actually tax / duties in one form or another.

Just curious, what is the most popular means of private conveyance in BD for middle/upper middle class?

A honda city manual (middle class car in India) costs about 13 Lakh in Mumbai. (https://www.zigwheels.com/newcars/Honda/City/on-road-price-mumbai#leadform)

A honda city manual in dhaka costs about 21 Lakh BDT or 17 lakh INR. (https://www.zigwheels.com.bd/new-cars/honda/city)

Considering the importance, I assumed this would be a 6-lane bridge. Should have thought about a wider bridge as vehicles will only increase in future. Maybe you'll need another bridge in a decade or so.

This is a rail-road bridge. That puts limitations of its own. Rail part is important because a lot of goods will be on rail.
