Operation Rah-e-Nijat (South Waziristan)

Speaking about the photo-op above, in addition to earlier ones in this thread, does it not provide a juicy target for a stray TTP sniper hiding in his burrow somewhere close by?

Cheers, Doc
It's called a security perimeter.

cant say for sure but the cantonment at swat will be a Div HQ.

Stationing a Division means quite something! But i think most of it would be away from the cantt for the obvious reasons.

Hasn't PA decided to pause the cantonment thing for the time being as the assessment is that the majority of the militants have been eliminated and if PA stays there for one more year, considerable progress would again be made and they can then leave a small detachment there to help the civil administration, as police is already becoming strong and i believe a FC Corps formation named Swat Scouts is also now on the ground, even its now taking part in some of the actions in other tribal agencies close to Peshawar and the Swat Scouts would be going to Swat as they have been raised for providing security services in Swat as an additional arm of the civil administration.

the army is here to stay in FATA/Swat. what will be the final 'structure' is a good guess. the area of responsibility 'for now' lies with the present corps HQ at Pwe for the north and Quetta for the south (which IMO will see 'fireworks' soon). what is needed is more mechanised / air assets to support these troops and the troops deployed from the 'east' return to their peace-time locations.

it is clear we cannot leave these areas 'un-attended'!

i also for the sake of discussion, dont agree with the present govt. decision not to deploy army in Baluchistan and the building of cantonments there - last time i checked the province was part of Pakistan.!!!

This is really a good move on part of Pakistan army. real worries is about what Political administration has done in this part of country. I think army must ask key political figure to visit the area more often.

Also, Army must make sure fool proof security to these new recruitment centers, scumbags will try their best to hit these camps.
