Official: Pakistan puts purchase of Mi-35 and Mi-28 helicopters 'on hold'

The biggest issue comes with financing. Pakistan will probably get the Mi-35, but it was never meant for the army, it was meant for the anti-narcotics force. Right now, Pakistan's priority is the PAA, not the anti-narcotics force, which is why it has been postponed.
Thanks sir, but few days back we were boasting that MI35 are being delivered later this year and all of a sudden we came up with lot of excuses it's expensive, not for PA, low quality etc
Pakistan started negotiations with Russia and it came through media then their defence minister came first time to pak, then we should not abandon these helo, maximum we should decrease the numbers but not to annoy Russian by totally rejecting the offers

We are talking about 30 to 40 MI35's, which is 2 squadrons for PAA. ANF is not that big that it needs 40 heavily armed helos, in fact whole ANF can fit in just one of them. If anything is required for ANF, that will be procured by the civilian administration, military won't get involved in that. the whole Pakistan civilian administration including Police and whatever does not have more than 10 helos combined, what makes anyone think that ANF will get 40?

MI35 is war proven multi purpose platform with excellent protection for the pilots. In my opinion 2 squadrons of that machine will meet PAA's requirement to engage Taliban as well as adversaries to the east. besides, backing out after requesting Russia for the supply when they have shown their willingness would be a grave political and strategic blunder.

the Chinese are friends :D

a friend today an enemy tomorrow.

let's just hope China is always a good friend and doesn't take advantage of Pakistan like the USA does :D

Bell UH–1Y Venom | Info, Upgrade, Avionics, Budget/Costs, Specs

I wonder UH-1Y is on the table as well and if Pakistan is interested.

30 Venoms plus equipment for a $1 billion seems about right.

You wonder who's been pushing for F-16s since the 80s.. but.. selective amnesia effects us all.

The Venom looks like a good replacement for the UH-1s(not the 412s) in service now.. however, I see a further purchase of 412s more likely.

Oscar what is happening behind the scenes? Pakistan will got for more Vipers or commit to WZ-10s....disappointing the Russians.

Not really, what happened was is that the Vipers were always the main goal and the diplomatic circles were played to show this drift from US equipment just for this purpose. The Mi35 and NE were still costing an arm and a leg which Pakistan was not interested in paying for immediately . and the Indian lobby in Moscow was not helping either.
The Viper is the ideal chopper for our needs.. with the WZ-10 focused more on the eastern front. So when it comes to large scale employment, the PA wanted a heavy and light chopper with recon assets(the Fennecs). The AH-1z becomes the cavalry and the tip of the spear.. much like the Block-52s will be.. and the Z-10 is the rest of the attack chopper fleet.

Although dont count out Mi-35s just yet.

Mi35 are for the ANF to interdict drugs and arms smugglers from AFG and lran. Operated by Army pilots

35-40 heavy Attack Helo are too much for just ANF ? i mean seriously ? what these Drug traffickers are using these days ? MANPAD's ?

One drug trafficker has a UH-60 fuselage sitting in his yard which he stole along with hundreds of M-16s.
So it is quite likely.

or Maybe the whole border from Fata to Balouchistan is infested by these Traffickers .... its huge land to cover

The problem is money, the Russians know that. Pakistan won't reject the Russian offer, just delay it.
