Really. How many Egyptians are proud of their great pre-Islamic heritage today? How many even know the names of the Pharaoh who built the great Pyramid?

AFAIK, Egyptians are hardcore nationalists, they love their history and heritage, i don't think you have met Egyptians before.

Some Egyptians don't even consider themselves Arabs, in fact they consider it below them.

I don't want to change the subject, but why would any Egyptian be ashamed of their pre-Islamic past ? Even till today we celebrate Sham-El-Neseem which marked the begining of the spring season in ancient Egypt. Egyptian culture till right now is very diff. than other Muslim countries, Islam didn't destroy any culture that existed before it. If anything, the Greeks in Egypt followed by the Romans are the reason for the loss of the ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphic lang. It was long gone when Arabs entered Egypt. Also, Coptic Egyptian was spoken in Egypt untill the 17th-18th centuries, and still spoken in every Egyptian church.

I agree with what you said, Egyptians are one of the most nationalists people you would ever meet, sometimes its too much, althu i don't consider myself above or below anybody. God created us all equal, and we all have the potential to be great, we just have to work hard.

True, not all Egyptians have that nationalist mindset, but i have noticed a lot of Middle Easterners, particularly Arabs from Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Egypt, Lebanon and Iraq are very nationalistic, and those Egyptians who were nationalists despised Islamists and consider them the cause of extremism in Egypt, and i think that's completely understandable considering even a lot of Pakistanis as well as Afghans are turning into extreme nationalists due to Saudis funded Islamic extremism in our countries.

I understand you got some issues with Islam, but you really don't sound like you know what you talking about, peace!

Well, I am a fan of ancient Egyptian and Persian civilizations so nothing against any of the two countries, quite the opposite.

I agree to leave out this topic of Egypt from this thread. May be some other time.

Is your government doing anything to preserve Coptic language. In India we still study our ancient Sanskrit at School. I know a Coptic Christian guy from Cairo, he is too learning Coptic language.

You are not gonna drag me into your fight with the Arab members here, lol. I don't like to blame anybody for the problems in my country actually, althu i could. I rather blame my own people, and learn from our mistakes.... Most Egyptians are very very nationalis, even Islamists in Egypt are very nationalists(Some are less than the others thu). Islamists in Egypt are not really big fans of other regimes in the region, thought it is worth mentioning. Anyway, lets leave this to another topic, i don't wanna irritate my Iranian friends with completely off topic talk.

You can study Coptic Lang. in college, churches, or any private institute if you wanna learn it at a younger age. My best friend does speak Coptic, it is very common within Chirstian Egyptians to speak Coptic.

The main languages of Pakistan, Punjabi and Sindhi, are Sanskrit based languages, like Bengali, Marathi or Assamese.

If Pakistan had retained its pre-Islamic culture they would not have been able to create a separate identity.

Pakistanis have retained a lot of pre-Islamic traditions, for example the Attan Dance, it has its origins in Zoroastrianism during which Pashtun Soldiers would dance around fire during Norouz.

Also, even today during weddings Pakistanis still have some old hindu customs mixed with Turkish, Iranian, and central Asian customs.

Northwest and Baluchistan still retain Iranian/Persian culture, while South west and Punjab still retain some hindu traditions.
