No Nobels, We're Muslim

Socio-economic structures will also have to be factored in. In average Muslim families,A child is encouraged to learn his hand in specific trades or lend his hand to family owned business concerns.This quite understandably takes away from the zeal and possibly even the necessity to graduate or pursue higher degrees.

Furthermore,Education is essentially perceived in our societies only as a platform for the gainful employment it can provide.No significance is placed on individual interests or creative potentials.Research and development positions aren't perceived as financially attrative career choices by many as it is heavily dependant on grants.Perhaps if governments could aggressively fund educational grants and make such positions as viable careers,we might see a marked increase in the Nobel tally awarded to Muslims.

Do you know what, I see many Indians in this thread, but for a country of 1.3 billion they haven't won too many Nobels either.

Perhaps Muslims should strive to win Nobel prize in Physics, Chemistry or Medicine. There are few who have done it but the number is very very small.

Do you know what, I see many Indians in this thread, but for a country of 1.3 billion they haven't won too many Nobels either.

Just one in science. Surprisingly, only Korea/Japan has won more. What does is say about Asian people? I am not counting Israel as part of Asia.

Brain drain is a contributing factor.......and yes...the lack of association with the country.......and the doom gloom mentality .. and government....(let me explain)

There is one example in my close family...A cousin of mine appeared for entrance exams for Pakistan atomic energy commission..She was brilliant,passed the tests and went all the way up to M.phil in Nuclear Physics...Then was sent to USA for P.Hd in Nuclear Physics..and was exceptionally brilliant,was offered a job by some American big wig...She was under contract by GOP...If she decided to leave Pakistan Atomic energy commission,she was liable to pay back the amount spent on her..
She took the oppertunity,started working with the American big wig,and with the ubber wages she got,she paid back GOP.
Then met another Pakistani-American Physicist and married him...Two genius minds joined hands and started research on solar cells...Invented certain other things and sold the patent to sony...got big grants from sony on their solar cell project...and sold patents to sony again.....
The patent on solar cells were US only,so they moved to Malaysia and now building solar cells for some malaysian company.
I asked them why they didnt do all this in Pakistan ..
Their answers were "pAKISTAN KAA KUCH PATA NAHI,PATA NAHI KABB KHATAM HO JAEY" Doon gloom mentality
"Pakistan ki government kuch nahi kertee" A total lack of confidence in whoever is ruling the country
"Pakistan main hameen kisee nay poochna nahi thha" as in recognized and rewarded them....A lack of belonging and association with country.....Mainly instigated by lower earnings of such people...

Then on the other hand i had a chance to work with soviets or ex soviets.....They were rocket engineers,and hovercraft engineers,and aced at their trade...I asked them....that with such great talent why didnt they immigrate to some other country and earn more money,as i knew they were on meager wages..Their answer was 1."Mother Russia needs us"....and 2."Communists are not welcomed in western world"

We may not reach the paart where we will reject a job offer in the west saying "Mother Pakistan needs us"...but surely we are reaching stage No.2...We Muslims will soon be disliked and disparaged in the west and even east that we will be isolated to our own countries and will have no option but to work for our own countries...and that will be good...Our great minds will stay home,wont be able to immigrate and Muslim world will rise in science and technolgy.

I think 3 in science. I knw remaining people done their research at abroad and having foreign citizenship . Just see the quality of their work it can't be done in INDIA at that time. so v can say 3

OK i am coming to ur way .If they lost the job after the fragmentation of USSR. Such innovative people can easily get job in any aviation ,locomotives industries which abundant in US and EU then y they dng odd job at Ukraine?at the time of global arm race. I think its quite funny . I think china and Myanmar got each Nobel prize(for peace) but their govt. not allowed them to receive that.

I don't think Pakistan have enough resources to meet the indigenous R&D.

No most of the Ukranians didnt get jobs in aerospace as you say...Russia doesnt have good relations with Ukraine and currently the only economically strong country who can spend money on airplanes is Russia not Ukraine..so Ukrainian scientists and engineers from Soviet era remain unemployed.

The Nobel Prize isn't a big problem. Wealthier countries would of course have more Nobel Laureates because of better education facilities.

The main problem is poverty, which gives people nothing to do, which causes them to riot for a period followed by becoming religious fanatics.

When Pakistan was experiencing 9% growth about 5 years ago, articles were appearing about how Pakistan was changing socially and less religion was appearing on the streets.
