No Excuse for Violence: Obama Tells Burma

Yep, along with M-16s and AKs. And no, they are not Chinese knock-offs of M-16s and M-4s. They are real US-made.

Burma....sheesh....what a joke....

Their air force seems to be bigger than ours....with far more Migs than ours.

They also have a more powerful ballistic arsenal than ours, with far greater range.

They were reputed to be in the beginning stages of nukes...which they seem to backing down from now.

Just to level out your laughing at them. :D

All we need to do is back the rebels if a war happens, they will get eaten from the inside :D

Our government (BNP at that time) closed down all Rohingya guerilla bases in Bangladesh post 9/11 as they did not want Bangladesh to be tarnished with the image of militant Islam.

Since then every Burmese ethnic group has an army except the Rohingyas.

However a properly armed and trained Rohingya force could take down the Mickey Mouse Burmese army by themselves as @asad71 can inform you.

You are right.

The BD army wouldn't fight for Arakan and Rohingyas but would help them organize a defence-force and make sure it is free of extremists and radicals, though of course there would inevitably be ordinary Rohingyas who are pious Muslims.

Help them yes by any means.. but watch yourself. Those "defence groups" shouldnot be driven by hate but by true patriotism. There is a thin line. You see anger can be great force but eventually destroys yourself if not controlled.. !!

Pakistanis fell foe the trap. They roused the anger and hate of hundreds of young kids to take advantage of the great power which anger/hate can bring. But now that same hate is destroying themselves.

Now the purpose has been so corrupted that it doesn't matter now whether their entire drama of jihaad started with a good reason or not. It's their brothers being killed almost every other day..

You're right.

But let's keep Pakistan out of this thread please.

This is Rohingyas and Bangladesh.

:D

1.The Arakan Mujahids have been waiting for decades, training one generation after another, to evict the Burmese occupation forces. BD came very near unleashing them several times - always restrained by various factors. If the Burmese are terrified of any insurgent group it is the Mujahids.

2. Obviously when the situation arises to make such a launch, BD would make preparations internally, in international relations and prepare her armed forces for a reprisal.

3. A factor that is often forgotten is Arakan's geographic situation. It is virtually cut off from Burma mainland. Most of Burmese mily assets are deployed in the north and east of this vast country. Amassing a force in Arakan would throw the Burmese forces at the mercy of the Kachin, Shan, Karen and Kyah insurgents.

Just one question:
Even if the Mujahids are being created and armed, what about the other rebel groups like ALA which want to throw out Rohingyas? It appears to be a rather messy and complicated scenario.

I agree though, defeating the Kachins once and for all is a wet dream for the Burmese Army. And you are spot on about the geography part.

The biggest mistake the NLD and their military backers can do is to completely ignore Arakan. Yes, I'm saying this given that woman does indeed come to power. She has next to no experience when it comes to such matters.

And yes, many top levels of the NLD are racist to the core. Not only against Rohingyas, but against other ethnic groups as well. Burma may be politically progressing, but they are walking over a mine-field at the same time.

God help us

From what i've seen, the situation is like this. All the militant group hate the occupational force but they hate each other too because of religious and racial reasons. If the Junta is gone then Burma will go in total turmoil and possibly a civil war will take place.

Really dont care what Obama has to say. Bangladesh Army is well-aware of the Burmese capabilities and honestly, they have more in quantity then us. Having said that, our Army is also not 'proven' as they have not fought any battles in modern times. On the other hand, Burmese Army spent their time COIN operations and thus to some extent, are tested.

I have no doubt about the quality training & experience our Army receives, it would boil down finally to which of the Generals act smartly and make the right strategies.

Cheers!!!

Well, Myanmar is a larger country. So it is acceptable that they have a larger military. Don't forget, Thailand is a historical foe. So, they'd certainly have several bases dotted around the eastern regions of the country.

On the Western side however, not so much...

Although that is not to say we'd underestimate them.

1. I don't think the Bangladeshi military want a Bangladesh v Burma war and would regard it as total lunacy.

2. They don't really seem to care that much about the Rohingyas either unfortunately.

3. The most we could expect is the army supporting Rohingya rebels to expel Burmese forces from majority-Rohingya areas and doing what the other major Burmese ethnic groups have done and that is to create a statelet.

That will never happen under an Awami regime.

4. When the BNP comes in to power, Obama and co may work on a Kosova style solution for Arakan with the involvement of Bangladesh and to a lesser degree Thailand.

All of the above is theorizing, what we do know is that the Burmese are getting their ***** whooped by the Kachin rebels. Even the 4 fighter jets and helicopters they have sent aren't doing them any good.

M16 aren't a great weapon,it jams frequently.you have to push it,thrush it.
not ideal for battle,if that happens in a critical situation, you're dead.
