NEW DELHI: Laying all speculations to rest, the Organising Committee on Wednesday clarified that beef will not be served during the Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held from October 3-14.

"We made this decision some weeks ago and have informed our catering contractors accordingly," said Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi in a statement.

"We are issuing this clarification since there seems to be a perception that cow meat would be served during the Games. I hope this will clear any remaining doubts," Kalmadi added.

The issue had first arisen some months ago when former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh wrote to Kalmadi asking him to keep cow meat out of the menu during the Games.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had also warned the organisers and passed a resolution against serving beef during the 12-day-long sporting event.

Later, the Delhi government had also clarified that beef will not be served during the Games.

Its not about imposing one's religion ,its about respecting ones religion ..

I know many City Hotels where Beef is Not Served at all ..Even Some Muslims whu own Hotels dont keep beef as Hindu Coustomers Will not Come

yes Seiko we will serve pork to outsiders or even those locals who want to eat it. There is no ban on its sale or eating in our country.


Beef is banned in few parts of India if i am not wrong?? Dehli is one of these parts. So does it mean that in other parts there is no respect for religion ?

Such steps will only add to bad repu for India not others because we can understand Hindus' sensitivities with regard to beef but Non-Hindus should not be forced not to eat

Its not Imposing, Its Respecting ones religious belief, if we had to impose we would have destroyed whole beef stalls in the country... Please dont pass such remarks, we dont need to impose anything on anyone

Good point in that case when Muslim countries pose restrictions on burqua to none Muslim believers what is your response. I know what you will say, you just hate India and Hindus and everything they do is wrong. You have right to follow what you want but not us. You faith is faith our faith is not.

Actually beef will be available only to athletes, the beef will be important and not available to the fans and wider public.

We never said Indians Dont eat beef, Its Like we dont want to Have a mass Killing of Bulls or OX's for such a Mega Event.... Do you have any idea, how many bulls are to be Slayed???
