In what will give a major boost to indigenous shipbuilding efforts, the Defence Ministry has decided to manufacture the Navy’s next generation diesel submarines at an Indian shipyard with the help of a foreign collaborator. The Navy, at present, is finalising a tender document that will be issued to leading submarine manufacturers across the world for help in the design and construction of six submarines at an Indian shipyard. The cost of the acquisition is pegged at Rs 30,000 crore.

The recently acquired Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in Vizag is at the top of the list of Indian shipyards being considered for the order.

While private players will be roped in a major way to supply parts and components for the submarines, the final assembly is likely to be done at a government owned shipyard. Other shipyards, including the Mumbai-based Mazgaon Docks Limited (MDL), which is booked until 2018 for the Scorpene class of submarines, are not available for the order. :smitten::smitten::cheers:

Diesel Submarines? But why when we can make Nuclear?

Sir,Diesel subs certainly do not have the limitless range and endurance for long-term operational deployment that nuclear subs do. But in conventional war, they have a lot of advantages as well.

They can operate far more easily in littoral or offshore, shallow waters, and being much smaller than nuclear submarines gives them a potentially huge operational advantage in key enclosed potential combat regions.

Having a very large conventional diesel submarine fleet makes a lot of sense. Conventional diesel subs can pose a formidable threat to aircraft carriers(VERY SOON TO BE SEE IN PLAN) operating within operational range of their home ports
Apart from that the AIP tech will be very handy for us in the future for making and producing our indigenous diesel sub..i had read that we are already making one.. i will find out the link and post it:cheers::cheers:

Well a submarine is a Submarine..... But India has First made a Nuclear Submarine then A Diesel, Sounds Funny But an Achievement Indeed In any Point of View
