@Dazzler , a technical question, whether it is VT-4 or Oplot, will it really be "next generation" for us? I don't think so with AK-I in service. What do you think?
Already being doneDilemma. AK production rate doesn't meet requirements, redundant tanks which can't be used in modern armoured warfare, form about 16 regiments in our Armd Corps, and the new acquisitions can't get decided as both VT4 and Oplot have failed first trials here. Don't know how the VT4 did this time but another tank type induction in short term will cause severe logistical issues.
We have to streamline our variety in armour, seeing the mess we possess, it's going to be pretty hard when the army will face large scale manouver ops with limited supplies in wartime.
I say we should pour in the cash to boost the AK-1 production rate, convert more T59 units into AZ and if needed disband a few units or transfer to reserves like the IA has done with it's T55s. AK-2 project should be taken seriously, just do what we did with MBT-2000 to MBT-3000 (VT4).
But this is long term, not urgent, and we have to focus on improving the overall fleet quality, reducing the logistical burden and making the AC leaner yet more effective. When a third of the Corps is at quality of infantry support ops only, these measures are necessary.
Most likely not nuclear but for sure not S-26 Submarine. Some thing new for sure. Thailand ordered S-26 only with few changes and they ordered 3 years later than us but construction of first of their submarine has begun and within a year they would receive first one. I am hoping and expecting something on these lines
Our people didn't just woke up one day and decided to go for trials without evaluating costs. Idea of replacing Rifle is more than a decade old. It wasn't being done due to several considerations after we were satisfied we can do it only than they were started.SCAR-H is too expensive one came be afforded.

This is Amur 950 of Russia.

Exactly!!Oplot,vt4, AK1 all are current gen.
After these 8 come Nuclear would come. But I am really hoping either it's like Amur 950 or the sweden new submarineThank God!!
For a moment there, i though you replying to "When are nuclear subs coming" with a "They are coming" meant you mean they were nuclear submarines!! Silly me!
Exactly!!
Getting one of these two wont be a "next generation" procurement since we already have AK-1 from same gen.
To me, this deal is more about numbers and basis for a future project than about adding a cutting edge.
Yeah, that too. Thats the numbers part!!It's more about replacing 300odd obsolete fleet.
