Next defence budget may touch $ 7.5 Billion.

ICBM induction is too far fetched. We don't want mighty USA to put in sanctions cuz Taliban might get some hands on ICBMs.

Then again a satellite can go into the orbit aboard an SLV, which pretty much is the same thing. The main issue is validating the technology. We had the technology needed to build an ICBM as far back as 2000s. ICBMs are scary but an old technology, they are not exactly as hard to build if you have MRBMs (2 stage, solid fuel). The main thing is what that ICBM is going to deliver and how safely to how many targets,

ISLAMABAD - The government has decided to increase national defence budget for the upcoming financial year 2014-2015 after Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif Saturday met with Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, who termed it a routine meeting and did not reveal level of increase to be made.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Raheel Sharif at GHQ (General Headquarter) Rawalpindi and they discussed issues related to development programmes of Pakistan Army and the upcoming defence budget, the official statements issued by finance ministry and ISPR (Inter Services Public Relations) stated, without dropping any hint at the expected level of increase in defence budget.
The brief statement of finance ministry however said, “The finance minister acknowledged the need to ensure fulfilment of the requirements of the defence in the light of current security situation. He assured the army chief that defence is of paramount importance to the country and hence necessary resources will be allocated.”
“It was a routine meeting and we have not finalised the defence budget yet, as we are trying to work it out it in next couple of months,” said Minister Senator Dar while talking to The Nation. “How can I inform you about the defence budget in the month of March when annual budget is to be finalised and announced in May or June,” he replied to a question.
Sources informed that military chief has asked to enhance the budget keeping in view the soaring inflation that increased the expenditure of the defence sector. The finance minister said that government would provide every possible financial support to the armed forces so they could carry out their mission of defending the motherland.
Sources were of the view that government might increase the defence budget by 15-20 percent for the next financial year 2014-2015. Defence budget might go around to Rs700 to Rs750 billion for the upcoming fiscal year, against the Rs627 billion of the ongoing year, the said. However, these figures are speculative yet.
The government cut the expenditure of all ministries by 30 percent last year but no reduction was made in the defence budget. The finance ministry is most likely to not cut the defence sector expenditure for next financial year as well and increase the overall volume of defence budget instead.

Next defence budget may touch Rs750b

Crucial sectors such as education and infrastructure development may be compromised again. At the end, nothing will change and an updated army will be fighting for a state that has a shallow and wafer thin chance of not defaulting on its loans.

Is there anyway, where a scenario where education and other social investment is given priority :-)

All front line gear of Pakistan Army is going towards ZERO performance particularly Gunships. Tanks are still lacking in many things no state of the art latest weapons in the hands of Pakistan Army. Pakistan Army better to consider some other gunship platform rather thn rely on Cobra because US continuously not supporting Pakistan in military deals. We have enough cards to get weapons in last 10 years but our generals and govts did nothing nothing xpect selling nation and our people. Better to consider T129 or Chinese whatever they feel better. Also upgrade Tanks and gear up soldiers with latest gadgets and hands on weapons. Also buy some proper MIRV. Our more than 70%-80% of soldiers killed in road side attacks. Need better protection vehicles @ this stage for long term.

15% increase of defence budget is definitely the need of the hour.
But then again this extra money could be used in resolving the power crisis in the country.

No I won't use the extra money to resolve the power crisis...I rather like sitting in the dark & having candle light dinners - its romantic, its eco-friendly & it hides most of my warts & blemishes as well - Aaaap ko kiyaa Aunty mein kiyaa karooon apneiii paisee keh saaath ? :p:

I hope they do what they are planning , but that's for sure army needs increase in budget , I don't know what PA is needed the most in upcoming 2 years but for PAF , I think they need funds to produce jf-17 blk2 , SAM's and navy needs funds for frigates , subs ...
