New Year's stampede in Shanghai: 35 dead, 43 injured

.
The police is just too embarrassed to admit that those people died because of some coupons.

RIP to the innocent victims. Shame on those greedy people who got excited for some coupons.

You know better than the police who were on the scene now? That's an amazing superpower to have - to psychically know the truth of what transpired hundreds of miles away from where you are located.

Almost as amazing as your other superpower - getting your threads closed and posts deleted at a greater rate than anyone else on PDF.

It's not smart to get into the crowd on China streets especially in national holiday, usually i avoid such dangerous place.

It would be funny if more greedy, rude and selfish Chinese die from stampede in the hospital.

China is very lucky a large number of trouble-makers could die in such a poetic justice way. I believe China is a little bit stronger in 2015 once undesirables are eliminated. I wish this happens every year in Shanghai. Kind of like mowing the grass.

really you wish death to people of your own country? Are you for real?

Ask Stalin if cleaning house is a bad thing.

LOL look at that girl holding the nightclub coupons like a rapper and his Benjamins. I bet she hung on to those coupons right until the last moment when other greedy people crushed her into a pancake!

Sad news. Chinese are becoming more and more materialistic.

.
It appears to be not a matter of materialistic. In 1993 same thing happened in HK, in 2004 in Beijing and now in Shanghai.
These stampede accidents were due to lack of facilities and dozens were killed during New Year's Eve celebrations. Both HK and Beijing drew lessons from it, Shanghai never had this incident before lets hope more facilities will be implemented in the future in order to prevent this from happening again. Still it would be wise to avoid being amongst the crowd during the last day of the year.

The best way is not to have government sponsored events during western new year's eve. People were expecting some show that's why they gathered there.

True, it's not about materialistic. People have a few too many beers and get rowdy during these times. I avoid it all cost.

Perhaps, when you look at New York, despite the huge crowd no stampede takes place during New Year's celebration. The answer is facility.
There were lack of police in the Bund also, well let this be a lesson. It's still wise to stay at home or just avoid the crowd if one must be outdoors.
