At least 149 dead, dozens injured in Halloween stampede in Seoul, South Korea

At least 149 people were killed and between 65 to 150 more hurt in a stampede during Halloween festivities in the Itaewon district of Seoul, South Korea — the first outdoor, mask-free celebration of the holiday since the 2020 COVID pandemic, local media reported.

There were about 100,000 revelers out celebrating in the popular nightlife area, according to Yonhap News.

Officials warned the death toll could rise further, with 19 of the injured in serious condition.

Videos posted online showed people in fancy costumes being pushed through the narrow streets. Some appeared to climb walls on either side in an attempt to escape.

OMG, this is why I stick to small town and never follow the crowd, this is the worst kind of death!

RIP to all victims.

Stampede mass death usually occurs with developing countries with poor management control and lower educated population mindset.

I am surprised it happened to SK. South Korea still has long way to go to be a real developed country.

Rip to all victims.
Korea is far more developed than China.

Should I bring some Li*veLeak footage of China and talk about poor management?

According to who? You? Koreans are free to celebrate how they want.
We will inform them that this American gay tradition belongs in the USA.

Don't get angry Zionist. The last thing we want is an angry Zionist spreading lies.

Halloween has nothing to do with Asian culture. It doesn't belong in Asian countries.

Yeah, so why are so many Chinese youngsters in the following videos celebrating Halloween then? TIL China is not in Asia.

The Korean government should foresee the risk of accidents in advance and send police to intervene in time when large crowds gather. Instead of shifting too much of the responsibility of the government to civil institutions and society, as in the United States.

Accidents could've happened anywhere, developed or developing, East or West.

Are there lapses? Sure, on hindsight they could've done better on managing the crowd.

But to take a political lens and frame this as a East vs West issue? It's nonsensical. What a tryhard.

The Chinese youngsters who follow this American gay tradition also need to introspect.

Of course, it is impossible to completely eliminate accidents. However, prevention work in advance can effectively reduce the probability of accidents.

Is there any data to support that the probability of accidents in East and West is the same?

The onus to provide data is on you guys because no one else is framing a stampede accident as a East vs West issue in the first place.

Shanghai New Year stampede kills 36

One third of South Koreans proclaim they are Christians, only 21% say they are Buddhists, they had lost their own culture for a long time.

Come on that's like saying New Years is based on people's religion.

The vast majority don't associate Halloween with religion anymore.

These asians have really gone crazy in US pop culture shyt.

Wtf going crazy over this American cultural dumbness and getting killed when you can be proud of your own shyt..

Chinese young people will not miss any festival they can find. Even including Arbor Day and Mud Festival. This is just the reason why they want to play together in the street. Don't think they really care about the content of this festival.

Halloween trick and treat transformed into a true horror show.

Most nations that adopt Western cultures tend to forget their own culture and traditions. In fact Western culture supercedes their own norms and values. You have to admit one thing. The Westerners know how to assimilate others into their materialistic world. South Korea is a perfect example where the Bible thumpers managed to convert million. Western way of life has transformed South Korean populace.
Yes, this is noticeable in South Korea. There is a heavy emphasis on Skin whitening, hair coloring (to look blond or colorful). Many rich families send their pregnant women to Western countries so that their children will have an alternate nationality to avoid serving in the military and go to school in the West. Many wealthy Chinese also practice Birth Tourism and park their wealth in Westen countries. Recently, Birth Tourism has become popular with Turkish mothers-to-be also.

PDF really has this disgusting tradition where people always compare casualties and then point fingers at each other society.
I've seen this with the Chinese earthquake, US flooding and the Chinese tragic plane crash.

It's like a competition each time a tragedy happens.

That's because nobody is better than "my China".

The population of East Asia plus Vietnam and Singapore is about 1.8 billion. It accounts for 23% of the global population. But in your list, only the events of 2022 come from East Asia. The accident probability is far lower than that of western countries.
