What's new

New LKF601E Air Cooling Airborne AESA radar for all JF-17 Block I and II

can someone summarize the difference in specs and performance fr the two radars. (KLJ-7A and LKF601E)?

. .
The only 4th Generation plane Pakistan can buy is the J10 from China but Pakistan has the F16s so paf believes they don't need a similar medium weight platform. Although I do believe they need around 150 4.5th Generation J10B planes which will be a counter for the Rafael and Su30MKI. Jf17Block 3 is a lightweight plane.

As many people stated paf is thinking to skip the 4.5th generation plane and move on to the 5th generation because by 2030 it will all be about the 5th generation planes.
J20 j31 and TFX are the good options in that field.

I would say Paf desperately needs 150 upgraded 4.5th Generation J10Bs in order to counter iaf.
.
So by 2030 we to have.
250 jf17 AESA planes
150 J10B Aesa planes
76 f16 planes
50+ 5th Generation planes
Total = 526 planes.

This looks like a lethal air force than
300 jf17
76 f16
50+ 5th generation (which is just on paper)

All Mirages and F7PGs need to be replaced immediately. If tomorrow USA donates us 100 f16s then mirages and F7pg will be in the museum. We have to admit they need to be replaced by jf17 block 3/J10B/f16 planes.

These amazing planes have served us well but we don't want to see them in our airforce beyond 2025.

This is a very potent force. PAF won't buy any off the shelf fighter. Project AZM would be the next big induction.

Project AZM is gonna take time , specially due to export orders .. i have a guess that PAF will increase the number of block 3 from 50 to 100 .. if that happen Project AZM will delay even further , an off the shelf option is needed to counter Rafale+S400 .. EFT older blocks would be very much doable .

They HAVE adjusted their wallets to maintain a minimum deterrence, that is why the JF17 Block III is so delayed as they are investing everything in it to make sure it is relevant until Azm turns up !!!!!!

they are not, IAF will have very qualitative and quantitative edge over PAF in next 5 years . We need an off the shelf option for PAF .

Current LKF601E Air cooling AESA radar version has 170 km range and will be part of Block-1s/2s. Similarly KLJ-7A AESA radar (being bigger in size) also has the same 170 km range. So in future, May be AVIC LETRI offers enlarged version of LKF601E with extended radar range for integration in JF17 Block-3?

J-10B with the new TVC engine is an entirely different animal. I think this fighter along with JF-17 and a 5th gen fighter is the future of PAF.

KLJ-7A

Data from: JF-17 official website
  • Frequency: X band
  • Range:
    • Look-up: >105 km (for RCS of 5m2) or
      130 km (for RCS of 5 m2),
    • Look-down: >85 km (for RCS of 5m2)
  • Total targets tracked: 10 in TWS (Track-While-Scan) mode
  • Weight: ≤120 kg

LKF601E

Known so far...

  • Range:
    • Look-up: Fighter-sized targets at 170 km

    • Look-down: large targets from 200 km in the Sea
  • Total targets tracked: tracks up to 15 targets simultaneously and engages four with air/air missiles
  • Weight: 69kg + 35kg (radar + (processor + power module))

You don't want to have too much variety in aircrafts and their origins, logistic and maintenance issues come up real quick and become an actual problem.

Also, J17 Block III is intended to be a 4.0+ generation fighter, so if not a 4.0+ generation fighter, definitely close and that is satisfactory; something that can cost effectively get the job done, it is ideal. Having other aircrafts will only increase costs and will put hurdles in Project Azms funding.
