What's new

New Islamabad Airport gets the final name

I think it should be named as Ahmad Paracha International Airport to improve tourism and promote our local culture[emoji6][emoji6][emoji6]

.
Islam abad is the best name ... SC should make it official no body can change it afterward ...

.
Gandhara civilisation reflects our robust history and diversity. We are not buddhists but our ancestors accepted islam and before that they were not muslims. Islam came before 1400 years and before that no one atleast our ancestors were not muslims so what are you to do about that deny your ancestry or blood line because they were hindu, buddhist, zorasstrian or christian.
im not denying our ancestors, what i want is to name our building and monuments ect after our heros or things that reflect us as a country today...

. . .
The air port should be named as EDHI AIR PORT .

at least , international travelers will know about Edhi's name and contribution for humanity.

And they will get shock not finding his name in the list of noble laureates despite serving humanity regardless of religion and color.

its the best way to slap noble committee .
Edhi lived in Karachi and started his blessed work there. I think the airport in Karachi should be renamed to honour him. It was his home city, only feels right. Mind you the biggest honour will be if we continue to support his organisation.

.
why? what gandhara doesnt represent us nor do we represent gandhara...

Gandhara was a center of education, learning and culture. Most countries go head over heels to utilize the soft power projection they can gain through the exposure of such sites as well as the money they will earn from tourism. India has for example fully utilized the potential of the Taj Mahal despite a large group of Hindus in that country calling for its destruction due to it "being built on the site of a Hindu temple". (https://www.indiatoday.in/india/sto...e-generator-indian-tourism-1066571-2017-10-17).

it is not history of punjab where this airport is located.... countries usually name things after things that are meaningful to them, since you support this naming place show me how gandhara is your history? or you hindu ancestors? maybe an airport in peshawar should be named gandhara..

Taxila is located in Rawalpindi district. Taxila was one of the capitals of Gandhara civilization and also a major center of education. So yes it is very much part of the history of Punjab and even more so it is very much part of the history of the Pindi/Islamabad area where this airport is located. After all the newairport is only around 10km away from the city.

how many pakistanis even heard of a kingdom named gandhara??? 99% name you places after things you are proud of not just to please westerners or secularists! if you are really proud of gandhara please tell what you liked about that kingdom ect...why not name it after a hero who actually called him self a pakistan instead of a kingdom 3000 years ago who nobody gives a shit about.

I dont know if you have ever lived in Pakistan and if so in which part. In North Punjab it is more commonly known than you would imagine which of course is also aided by the fact that Gandhara has also been used by Pakistan on the state level to expand soft power (see examples below). Schools often take students on trips to the Taxila site as well

"School planned a trip to Taxila Museum, SIRKAP Remains & Khanpur Dam for the students of seniors classes. Social studies & history teachers were guided and educated the students accordingly."
https://islah.edu.pk/media-gallery/school-trip-2018

"Rawalpindi: Students of Class IX at BSTRB had the time of their lives as they visited the Taxila Museum as part of a school trip, on April 12, 2017. "

i want places named after things we are proud of! like our heros through out history... we dont know shit about gandhara nor do we care about them... so why name a airport after a buddhist kingdom nobody knows about? just to please athiest bastards??? athiests are stupidest and lowest scum of the earth, they are the last people we should try to please.

Maybe you dont know "shit about" Gandhara. Does not mean this is the case for everyone else. As said Pakistan has the potential to reap economic benefits as well as recieve a boost to its soft power if it plays its cards right. India has thoroughly beaten us in the soft power game because we are too self absorbed in our own little world. Even the Israelis milk Muslim tourists.

@Kaptaan , thoughts on this topic? Your origins lie in this region as well?

If pakistani do not claim their own history then you can rest assured the stick insects across the border will pounce on any weakness and thats what the BJP and right wing Hindu nutjobs are already doing with their revisionist agenda. This is happening for years with IVC, gandhara, mohenjodara, harrappa.

This great land didn't start with Mohammed bin qassim or in 1947.

It's steeped in history to antiquity nothing wrong with Gandhara I would welcome it.

Let the generations after use minhas, liaqat and iqbal

Good that its not named after Benazir. She was corrupt and did nothing for the country. Her death nonetheless was tragic and I feel for her children.

rashid minhas...... liaqut ali khan, rehmat ali khan...???
BTW Who is this Rehmat Ali khan !!!:coffee:

I agree with you, but why shouldn't we feel proud of our pre-Islamic past?

Even the Egyptians and Persians/Tajiks feel proud of their pre-Islamic past/history.
