Naval ships to be added to Bangladesh Navy by 2013

but they have big af than bd air force

They can't arm their own troops effieciently and can't mobilise them quickly enough. Im sure that their pilots don't get much training either since they blow most of their budget on purchasing hardware but not on actual training.

Bangladesh and its neighbor Myanmar were on the edge of a war in the bay in 2009 over oil and gas exploration by the latter in the disputed areas. Both the countries had engaged in legal battle over the disputed areas in an international court that gave verdict in Bangladeshi favor. Bangladesh is still running a legal battle against another neighbor, India, over maritime boundary in the same international court.

Besides, officials said Myanmar also plans to acquire two old frigates from China. The type- 53H1frigates, built in the 1980s, can carry four anti-ship missiles, they said. Associated Press reported from New Delhi on February 9, 2012 that India had decided to buy 126 multi-role fighter jets from France, taken delivery of a nuclear-powered submarine from Russia and an aircraft carrier recently to increase its strength in the Bay of Bengal as well as the Indian Ocean.

The US struck a deal called the Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement with Sri Lanka in 2007. ACSA, a military cooperation deal, aims at enhancing the rapid deployment capability of the US forces far away from their bases. Officials said before that Dhaka is also under pressure from Washington to sign a similar military cooperation deal.

Under these expressions, The government had proposed a massive increase in defense expenditure to finance some major purchases needed to modernize the armed forces. Meanwhile, a senior army official said the government is increasing the defense spending as it plans to go for a big purchase for the army, navy and air force after a long time. He said that many an equipment being used by Bangladeshi contingents on UN peacekeeping missions is years-old and losing performance.
Navy needs new offshore patrol vessels, which are medium type battle ships. The air force needs to upgrade their aircraft and purchase some new, the officer said. Besides the new purchases, an upgrade is necessary to keep the aircraft and other equipment functional, he continued.

Among the naval procurement and upgrades, some of the very important items are to join in Bangladesh Navy by 2013.

Better for them to get or produced F-22P class.. and 6 of them.

Type022 cost $40M, so i assume Type056 corvette cost will be close to $100M (2.5 times) which is very low than its competitors.

around 100 M bucks, i think it is very cheap compare to our Sigma well i will trying to find more info about the price tag, thanks for your kindly response

Also BDs have missed the great chance of getting a superior AIP submarine that was available to them; Agosta-90B and I think they should have place an order for it in 2005 and about 3 of them to PN/KS&EWs. In this way they will have a good submarine and also PN will gain money to even produce some 6-8 of this for their own too.

I heard they are going for Nuclear Powered Submarine with ICBM capability also.....Is it TRUE???

While the GoB has signed agreement with Russia to build two large nuclear reactors (1000 mW each), one private company has signed a treaty with a US company to supply, build, erect and commission very small reactor (only 20 mW) in the country.

The Indian Arihant SSBN is a 6,000 ton large submarine with a single 85 MW power fueled by highly enriched uraneum driving a 70 MW steam turbine. Not all submarines are so large. A medium submarine can also be run by a 20 mW power or less.

So, building such a submarine may not be far off. Our scientists/engineers will keep on working on a proto type of submarine and when the time is favourable they may be given go ahead by the GoB to build a working one.

To miniaturise is the key word here. hahaha. bangladeshi imports a low power reactor and thinks that can power a sub. :hitwall::hitwall: Stupid people

Oh!! This is Indian intelligence?? I was talking something that you have twisted at ease. Seems Indians get jealous of anything its neighbours do which keeps India in the league of underdeveloped poor countries.

What is your idea? Shall we put one 1000 mW reactor in a submarine when a small reactor can do the trick? We must develop our own submarine, nuclear or DE, with the help of others.

But, you got panicked when you saw BD already is importing small reactors. Please do not get panicked by this reactor. It may hurt your heart. We can buy small things for submarine use in the future. So, cool it down!!!

Stop now will you. Panic and Bangladesh are two very distant words. Simply pointing out your idiotic idea about small power reactors and submarines. Power is not the key here dumbo, size, shape and build of the reactor is.

We do not want panicky Indians to tell us what to build or how to build. We have experts working on many things. But, do not get panicked when we produce many important things.

Gentlemen, below is a little old news. But, I thought it has some relevance to our ongoing discussion about the purchase of two type-053H2 Frigates.

The government has formed a committee to negotiate with a Chinese team on purchase of two frigates to enhance Bangladesh’s naval strength in the resourceful Bay of Bengal, officials said.
Commodore Khandokar Tawfiquzzaman of Bangladesh Navy is heading the 10-member local negotiating committee and commander Kazi Mehdi Masud will act as its member- secretary.

Other members of the committee are: captain M Ziauddin Alamgir, captain M Jahangir Alam and commander SM Riazul Rasdid of the navy, commander Sayeed Mahmud Hasan of the armed forced division and one member each from the ministries of finance, defence and law and senior finance controller of the navy.

Officials said the Chinese delegation of PLA navy is scheduled to visit Bangladesh in the current month and will stay here until the middle of June.

The delegation will also include officials of Bometec, a leading Chinese electric company, and Poly Tech, a subsidiary of China Poly Group Corporation manufacturing defence equipment.

Both the sides will work out details of the state-to-state frigate purchase agreement the groundwork of which was laid during the visit of prime minister Sheikh Hasina to China in March 2010.

Beijing had offered two of its old 053H2 frigates at a very lower rate on conditions that Dhaka would bear refurbishment and defence equipment costs for the off-the-shelf ships.

Officials said the armed forced division had planned to utilise budgetary allocations of Tk 6.55 billion to be given for 2012-13 to 2016-17 fiscals for the purchase of the proposed frigates.

China had built the frigates in early 1990s which are capable of carrying eight anti-ship missiles.
At present, Bangladesh Navy has six frigates – BNS Bangabandhu, formerly known as BNS Khalid bin Walid of South Korea, BNS Osman of China and BNS Umar Farooq, BNS Abu Bakar and BNS Ali Haider of the UK.

But half of the frigates will be decommissioned in near future or are in the process of decommissioning.

Officials said commissioning of the 053H2-type frigates would help the navy to bolster coastal patrol in the bay, the dimension of which had changed a lot in the last one decade amid growing interest of India, China and the US in the area.

I think building subs are a distant dream for now. We first need to mature our warship-building capability..get some locally made corvettes, frigates etc. and then go for subs in later future.

Cheers!!!

anyone got any credible news regarding continued construction of the Durjoy-class 64m LPCs/corvettes at KSY?
I also have heard about it, but didn't get any credible source....

well, the New Age link is from 2011.....

regarding the Indian publication, have seen it before, but its difficult to trust..... the IPVs are said to be 27.5, 18kts, 2x14.5mm m.g.s.... whereas, in reality, the Padma-class is 50.4m, 23kts, with 2x37mm and 4x20mm guns.... and then 46m corvettes weighing 260tons??..... their credibility is really at stake..... lets just hope that their mention of unit numbers is okay.... although I can hardly rely on this....

Regarding the corvettes the news was published in an Indian magazine.
