Main functions of the day will be held at GHQ Rawalpindi and Convention Centre in Islamabad
Nation will celebrate 50th Defense of Pakistan Day on Sunday (6 September) with national zeal and fervor to pay homage to martyrs who rendered supreme sacrifice in defence of the motherland.
On 6th September 1965, Pakistan's valiant armed forces and the entire nation stood united to foil the nefarious designs of the enemy who had dared cast an evil eye on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country.
The day will dawn with special prayers in mosques for the progress and prosperity of the nation.
Tribute will be paid to the martyrs of 1965 war by observing one minute silence at 9.29 am. This will follow airing of national anthem by all broadcasting networks at 9.30 am.
Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid will join the one minute silence along with other officials of ministry of information and broadcasting at PTV center Islamabad.
In a message, Pervaiz Rashid said the one minute silence is being observed to pay tributes to the martyrs.
Numerous functions will be held all across the country to mark the day. The civil society will actively take part in these programmes to highlight the strong commitment of the nation and the armed forces to defend the motherland in the face of aggression by India.
Radio Pakistan is broadcasting special programmes to mark the occasion.
ISLAMABAD:
Main functions of the day will be held at General Headquarters Rawalpindi and Convention Centre in Islamabad to pay tribute to the martyrs of Pakistan.
In this connection, there will be fireworks in the night at F-9 Park Islamabad today. Entry into the park will be free of cost for the general public.
KARACHI:
In Karachi, several programs have been chalked out by various governmental and non-governmental organizations to pay homage to the martyrs of 1965 war.
The day will start with the change of guard ceremony at mausoleum of the Quaid in which the smart contingents of cadets of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) will assume the charge.
PESHAWAR:
In this connection, Pakistan Air Force has arranged an exhibition of aviation paintings and aircraft models at Nishtar Hall, Peshawar.
The theme of the exhibition is "Pakistan Air Force - a saga of courage and sacrifice".
Our Peshawar representative reports general public are visiting the exhibition and taking keen interest in the items displayed there. They are saluting to the sacrifices rendered by the martyrs of 1965 war.
The exhibition will continue till September 6.
LAHORE:
In Lahore, an exhibition of Calligraphy and Portraits of Pak-India 1965 war heroes is being held at Shakir Ali Museum on Saturday evening, under the aegis of Pakistan National Council of Arts, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Strict security arrangements are in place in the provincial capital to avoid any untoward incident on the Defence day.

In Multan, a two-day exhibition of Pakistan Army war weapons started for the general public at Ayub Stadium Garrison on Saturday.
Major function will be held at Yadgar-e-Shuhada in Multan cantt on Sunday evening to pay tribute to the martyrs of Pak Army.
