I don't consider them Muslims either but I would renege from declaring them as Non-Muslims primarily for two reasons :

(a) they've given so much for Pakistan & in line with that maybe we should respect their right to call themselves what they see fit instead of institutionalizing something against it.

(b) it sets a dangerous precedent that maybe & is applied by zealots to other sects of Islam; a forceful clamp down of any such movement that starts declaring people Muslims or Non-Muslims would have been in the betterment of Pakistan.

On the other hand the act of declaring them as Non-Muslims :

(a) was a democratic move & if its not democracy than what other mode do we use to make such communal decisions ?

(b) perhaps it, in a way, set down certain 'red-lines' from us whereby we don't give anyone the right to just standup & foOk with the very fundamentals of Islam.

I dunno this is a conundrum I haven't exactly wrapped my mind around.

Great post! I thought @KingMamba93 was a total US supporter. This was a little strange hearing from you. I thought you would be more tolerant and your mind more open towards different religious groups.

Your article was so contradictory on so many fronts !

It is a very hard concept to swallow. Especially since we have been taught from birth that Secularism and Islam are two diametrically opposite systems and secularism cannot accommodate Islam as a religion. This is a falsity. Further debate on this can take place if you wish it. I can post my article in Social Issues section and we can debate this concept.

But belief's firmly embedded are difficult to remove from a peoples minds. Much like it is hard for many of us migrants to remove Muhajir and merge or reassert our original identities. In either case it is my personal view that secularism is a better option, however I do not wish to impose an idea. If people are willing or capable enough to accept it and understand its value, perfect. If not then it is okay too.
