Jatiya Party lawmaker Nasim Osman on Sunday threatened of reprisal for reports published in Bangla daily Prothom Alo that criticised his brother Shamim Osman, a mayoral candidate in Narayanganj City Corporation polls.

If necessary, he will lead thousands of people from Narayanganj towards Dhaka to teach Matiur Rahman, Prothom Alo editor, a good lesson, Nasim said at a press briefing at the Narayanganj Press Club in the afternoon, reports our Narayanganj correspondent.

Nasim, the lawmaker from Narayanganj-5 constituency, said the Bangla daily and some other like-minded print and electronic media are hatching conspiracy against his brother over the elections slated for October 30.

He alleged that the Prothom Alo editor and some of his fellows have been publishing “fake reports” to damage the reputation of his brother, a former lawmaker of the ruling Awami League, intentionally.

নারায়ণগঞ্জ-৫ আসনের সাংসদ নাসিম ওসমান বলেছেন, ‘যারা আমাদের গডফাদার বলে, তাদের বলতে চাই, আমরা যদি গডফাদার হতাম, তাহলে তাদের কবরে বটগাছ লাগিয়ে দিতাম।’ তিনি প্রথম আলোকে হুমকি দিয়ে বলেছেন, ‘প্রথম আলোকে কীভাবে দেখে নিতে হয়, আমাদের জানা আছে। আজ রোববার দুপুরে নারায়ণগঞ্জ প্রেসক্লাবে আয়োজিত এক সংবাদ সম্মেলনে এসব কথা বলেন তিনি।
প্রথম আলোর সম্পাদকের উদ্দেশে নাসিম ওসমান বলেন, ‘যদি ক্ষিপ্ত হয়ে লাখ লাখ লোক পত্রিকাটির সম্পাদককে মারধর করে, সেটি হবে গণমার। প্রয়োজনে আমরা এ কাজ করব।’
নাসিম ওসমান বলেন, ‘তারা অনেক বড় সাংবাদিক হতে পারে। কিন্তু আমরা ছোট সাংসদ নই। আমরা নারায়ণগঞ্জের সাংসদ। প্রয়োজনে লাখ লাখ লোকের মিছিল ঢাকা পর্যন্ত যাবে।’
নাসিম ওসমান আরও বলেন, ‘প্রথম আলো বিশেষ অ্যাসাইনমেন্ট নিয়ে মাঠে নেমেছে। তারা শেখ হাসিনার অত্যন্ত আস্থাভাজন জননেতা শামীম ওসমানের বিরুদ্ধে কুত্সা রটাচ্ছে এবং শামীম ওসমানকে হেয় করাসহ আমার ও ব্যবসায়ী নেতা সেলিম ওসমানের সব সুন্দর ও উন্নয়মূলক কর্মকাণ্ড বাধাগ্রস্ত করতে চাচ্ছে।’ [/COLOR]তিনি বলেন, ‘তারা নারায়ণগঞ্জকে সন্ত্রাসের জনপদ হিসেবে উপস্থাপন করতে মরিয়া হয়ে উঠেছে। অথচ নারায়ণগঞ্জের অপরাধ শূন্যের কোটায় নেমে এসেছে।’ তিনি আরও বলেন, ‘শক্তির দিক থেকে আমরা নারায়ণগঞ্জে একচ্ছত্র। আমাদের ধারেকাছে কেউ নেই। বিএনপি কোনো দলই না। আগামী ৩০ অক্টোবরের নির্বাচন শান্তিপূর্ণ হবে। শামীম ওসমান বিপুল ভোটে এই নির্বাচনে জয়লাভ করবে।’
নাসিম ওসমান বলেন, ‘শেখ হাসিনার ঐকান্তিক ইচ্ছায় আমরা শীতলক্ষ্যা সেতু বাস্তবায়নের দ্বারপ্রান্তে পৌঁছেছি। অচিরেই সেতু চালু হবে। পানিসমস্যার সমাধানে আমরা সক্রিয়ভাবে কাজ করছি। যার সুফল নারায়ণগঞ্জবাসী অচিরেই পাবে। আগামী দিনে নারায়ণগঞ্জে অত্যাধুনিক হাসপাতাল হবে। একাধিক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় হবে। জলাবদ্ধতা নিরসন হবে। নারায়ণগঞ্জ হবে শান্তির শহর।’
নাসিম ওসমান বলেন, ‘শামীম ওসমান সাংসদ থাকাকালে দুই হাজার ৬০০ কোটি টাকার কাজ করেছিল। আমি সাংসদ হওয়ার পর প্রতি মুহূর্তে উন্নয়নের কাজ করে যাচ্ছি। আমার আরেক ভাই সেলিম ওসমান বিনা প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতায় বিকেএমইএ, নারায়ণগঞ্জ চেম্বার ও নারায়ণগঞ্জ ক্লাবের সভাপতি নির্বাচিত হয়েছেন। অথচ আমাদের সুশীল কার্যক্রমকে ধামাচাপা দিতে প্রথম আলো এবং তাদের ঘরানা থেকে বেরিয়ে আসা কিছু সাংবাদিক মিথ্যাচারে লিপ্ত।’
আইভীর উদ্দেশে নাসিম ওসমান বলেন, ‘এখন প্রথম আলোতে ট্রাক রাখা নিয়ে লেখা হচ্ছে। ব্যবসায়ীদের স্বার্থে এটা করা হচ্ছে।’ তিনি বলেন, ‘একটার জায়গায় ১০টা রিকশার লাইসেন্স দিয়ে নারায়ণগঞ্জকে যারা যানজটের শহরে পরিণত করেছে, তারা ধোয়া তুলসীপাতা! আজকে আমরা রিকশার জন্য গাড়ি নিয়ে নারায়ণগঞ্জ শহরে চলতে পারি না।’ তিনি বলেন, সেলিম ওসমান যেমন বিনা প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতায় নির্বাচিত হয়েছে, আমি যেমন গত নির্বাচনে বিপুল ভোটে জয়লাভ করেছি, তেমনি ৩০ অক্টোবরের নির্বাচনে শামীম ওসমান জয়লাভ করবে।’
প্রথম আলোয় প্রকাশিত সংবাদের প্রতিবাদ না করে কেন সংবাদ সম্মেলন করছেন—এমন প্রশ্নের জবাবে নাসিম ওসমান বলেন, ‘এসব সংবাদের প্রতিবাদ করার ইচ্ছা আমার নেই। প্রতিবাদ করে সময় নষ্ট করার চেয়ে জনগণের কাজ করা অনেক ভালো।'প্রথম আলোকে নিজেদের শত্রু উল্লেখ করে নাসিম ওসমান বলেন, ‘ওরা আমাদের শত্রু। ওরা বিএনপি-জামায়াতের বুলি আওড়াচ্ছে। ওরা আমাদের বিরুদ্ধে লিখবেই। এটাই চিরন্তন সত্য।’

He alleged that the Prothom Alo editor and some of his fellows have been publishing “fake reports” to damage the reputation of his brother, a former lawmaker of the ruling Awami League, intentionally.

This is muscle-power politics as usual in Bangladesh. Both these brothers are notorious. But, Shamim Osman of AL is a little more dangerous than his sibling. This Shamim had once threatened Begum Zia of BNP not to allow her in his turf Narayanganj. Finally, he was defeated in the election and had fled probably to our Bandhustan. Shamim re-arrived only after AL win. AL is full of these muscle powers.
