Nagaland, previously a state of India, has declared independence from the Indian Union as it hoisted its flag, on Thursday,

The news was tweeted by BBC anchor Zain Khan who claimed that Nagaland had celebrated its Independence Day on Thursday from the Indian Union and the media had kept quiet about it as India didn’t want to attract hype.

“#BREAKING: #Nagaland, previously a state of #India has declared Independence from the Indian Union on 15 Aug 2019.

“It was not reported much by mainstream media, because India kept hush about it,” he tweeted.

So #NarendraModi Government allows the #Nagaland to hold their separate independence day on 14th August with the Naga National Flag ( Not our Tricolor ).
Why ???

In 1947 india illegally occupied Nagland and in 1950 a referendum held in Nagaland where 99% people voted aganist india but till today India is not leaving but this year peoples of Nagaland officially announced their independence#15AugustBlackDay

Nagaland is a mountainous state in northeast India, bordering Myanmar. The state capital is Kohima, and the largest city is Dimapur. It has an area of 16,579 square kilometers (6,401 sq mi) with a population of 1,980,602.
Hundreds of Naga from neighboring states of Nagaland and Myanmar celebrated the event at Katomei public ground.

The celebration started with hosting of the ‘Naga National Flag’ by the special guest of the event, Neingulo Krome, secretary-general Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR), followed by speeches from the leaders of Naga civil bodies, and singing of ‘Naga National Anthem’.

The Nagas have been celebrating Independence Day each year on August 14. However, this time around, the participation was huge owing to the prevailing dismal situation in Kashmir and the growing discontent against the state of India.

ok folks let me share some knowledge why nagaland is having separate flag and constitution , as nagaland is going no where. below is the info. this is from 2016 the deal between the government of India and Naga insurgent groups – NSCN-IM, NSCN (Khaplang) and NSCN (Unification) – with about 4,500, 2,500 and 1,000 armed guerrillas respectively.

Nagaland may be given a separate official flag under the final accord expected to be signed soon by the Union government and the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah), sources said.

The issue of giving the northeastern state its own flag is almost decided, the sources familiar with developments in the ongoing negotiations told HT.

A separate flag is one of 33 demands made by the NSCN-IM, which has been engaged in talks with the central government since a truce was finalised in 1997. The NSCN-IM’s demand for a separate currency has been ruled out.

VS Atem, an emissary of the NSCN-IM’s central leadership and a key figure in the talks, had told HT earlier: “If Kashmir can have a separate flag, why not Nagas? China also has separate flags for Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan.”

Other demands include a separate constitution, dual citizenship and the creation of “Nagalim” by integrating all Naga-inhabited areas of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland, but the last demand is expected to be put on the “backburner for now” because of opposition from the other states
.

Under the final agreement, certain items are expected to be transferred from the Central and Concurrent list of the Constitution to the State list, which would imply greater powers for Nagaland.

The peace accord is expected to figure in the forthcoming budget session of Parliament as the document will have a few clauses requiring parliamentary sanction. They include the concept of “shared sovereignty”, special constitutional privileges to safeguard the traditional rights of Nagas with recognition of the “uniqueness of their history”.

The central government and the NSCN-IM inked a “framework agreement” in August last year to pave the way for a final accord to end one of the longest running insurgencies in Asia.

Nagaland is presently governed under Article 371 A of the Constitution, which confers the right over land and resources to the Nagas.

The negotiations have been a closely guarded secret since August 3, 2015, when the Prime Minister and top government officials invited the NSCN-IM leadership for a hastily convened function to unveil a framework for the impending agreement.

According to sources, even the home ministry and the Intelligence Bureau are not privy to the discussions, with the National Security Council assuming a vital role that is steered by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Joint Intelligence Committee chief RN Ravi.

Ravi is the interlocutor for the talks and is learnt to have been making frequent trips to Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam to hasten an early resolution.

The Naga insurgency – with independence as the main demand – is more than six decades old. While government figures say about 3,000 have died in the conflict, unofficial figures put the toll at about 50,000.

There are three major Naga insurgent groups – NSCN-IM, NSCN (Khaplang) and NSCN (Unification) – with about 4,500, 2,500 and 1,000 armed guerrillas respectively.

this has been done and I quoted the news from that time period. why India accepted to this I dont know and dont have time for keyboard war. the only point I want to make here is Nagaland is not leaving union of india

@CONNAN;

Nagaland can be given a status of Independent State and Indis is OK with it - but the same status had to be taken away from Kashmir killing 100,000s of them, under 800,000 armed forces and curfew. India has lost rational thinking somewhere.

The interesting phase was over couple of months back when Myanmar helped us to dismantle the Naga insurgent camps across the border. With the back of militancy broken, GoI will go forward with accomodating the reasonable demands in the Accord which is almost completed. Rest assured, the issues of sovereignty and greater Lim(comprising of Naga areas of Assam, AP, Manipur and Myanmar) wouldn't even be entertained. Peace is returning to the NE much to the chagrin of our detractors.
