I honestly have never ever heard of this place and I had to do a google search, and even on google, all I can find is just one sentence...Damn, suddenly realize that there are so many cities in China I don't even know they exist and I am actually often praised by many for my extensive knowledge in geography.
Yongkang, formerly known as Lizhou, is a county-level city located in the central part of Zhejiang province,

In city infrastructure and public transport, China is decades ahead of US.

The Chinese love to live the packed city lifestyle just like we used to live in it back in 1900.

I would suggest you look at it as a cultural thing…just like in China where walled barbed wire enclosed apartments are a cultural thing people in the US simply don’t understand…moving out of the city life to the suburbs is simply a US cultural concept you can not understand. We have not built any new major cities in over 100 years.

So yes you far ahead of us in city living.

Someday you’ll achieve an income level where you can do the same.

China is surely a great country, and will surpass the US very soon.

The woman is from Slovakia so you can imagine what life was like for an Eastern Block country.

It all depends upon what your definition of surpass is. What’s one man’s idea of surpass is another man’s definition of going backwards. Some people think cramming lots of people into multi-story buildings is not surpassing. Even college students prefer avoiding living in dense multi-story dorms and seek alternatives as quickly as possible. Leaving them mostly full of Freshmen.

My company has an office in London and they are all amazed when they find out almost nobody actually lives in Boston…but in the suburbs. They thought we all lived in buildings like the tv show “Friends”. We just all laugh.

When they see pics of our homes they think it is a dream come true for people in the UK.

And Americans don't like high speed railways and subways, you always say that, US infra is falling apart, this is why you have that so called infrastructure bill in the hope of fixing it.

China's population density is much higher than that of the USA. Moreover, considering food security, China needs to reserve enough agricultural land.

So it is unreasonable for Chinese people to live in the suburbs like Americans.

We already had passenger railways crisscrossing the country. You can see them in old Hollywood movies. They fell out of favor once planes became common. Remember we have been building passenger planes since the 1930’s and by the 1960’s with the jet age it was ubiquitous as a means of travel. You guys are relative newcomers. You’ve only had a handful of passenger plane designs while we have had dozens.

I’m on vacation in Orlando. That’s over 2000km (using a straight line) from my home. Why would I want to take a train when my family can hop on a jet and be there in just 3 hours??? There is no way any train is going to be better.

Just like bicycles recently disappeared from the streets of China replaced with cars almost overnight so were our trains. Our bicycles BTW disappeared from our streets in the 1930’s.

How about subway, Americans city fellows also don't like the subway , do they? besides, China has way more private cars and flight passengers than US, but most people still prefer super fast and conevient high speed railway. You are just in a denial mode which is very funny.

You are clueless to reality.

There are now only 10 US cities left with a population of greater than 1 million people and I believe all of them have subways. There are 160 in China with greater than 1 million. Why don’t all 160 of those Chinese cities have subway systems?? Why are you so far behind in infrastructure?

We now have cities with less than a million people with subways. How come most of your less than 1 million population cities don’t have subways??? Do you even have any subway in cities such as those?? What kind of a crappy government do you have for not supplying all those less than a million population cities with subways?? The likely answer is it is not practical in terms of revenue generation. So why are you thinking it would be practical for us then??

You keep talking nonsense over and over.

The US is not China. We don’t live in huge cities like China does. We did 100 years ago but not now. While you guys are moving people into cities…we are moving out of them.

You keep talking city city city city when the majority of our population doesn’t even live in them. You just can’t get comprehend that no matter how many times it is explained to you.

You keep talking about we need high speed rail to connect our cities together. If we only have 10 cities with a million people who is going to be taking these high speed rail lines daily and why???? Most of those cities with 1 million people are over 500 miles from each other. Why would people want to take a 500 mile train ride daily? Who is this HSR supposed to be serving?

Due to China's population size, even tier 3 or tier 4 cities will rival most major cities in Europe and North America in terms of population. That is why it's prudent for China to develop a robust public transport and high speed rail network.

The next challenge is to reduce pollution, increase green spaces and implement comprehensive recycling to improve the environment and living standards.
