Awesome! I will go to Wuhan University and East Lake for flowers sometime next week. Every time of the year, thousands of people from Guangdong Province will take HSR for Wuhan every day.

Silk Road Journey 2013

I decided to start a journey mainly along Silk Road after I was given a 2-week holiday in 2013. BUT, I only managed to buy a sitting train ticket since all hard beds or soft beds were sold out. Anyway, the journey began!

Lonely Planet Gansu/Ningxia and Lonely Planet Silk Road

It took around 30 hours from Shanghai to Jiayuguan which is 3000km away, in Hexi Corrider of Gansu Province, also the westernmost end of Great Wall. (Seat/ 299.5yuan, hard berth/ 507.5yuan, soft berth/ 802.5yuan)

In the oil Industry, you get 2 week holidays and 2 week working days. Not bad eh? Plus you'll have at least 5 figure salary. But to get 2 week holiday is difficult in Malaysia, cause we too many holidays.

Altitude Sickness After 30-Hour Sitting On Train
After 30 hours of sitting with less than 5-hour sleep, I arrived in Jiayuguan City at 4am.
Two hours later, I boarded the mine train which carried miners every day from the city to an iron mine called Mount Jingtie(mirror iron) 70km from downtown Jiayuguan.

The train was driving on Hexi Corridor at first.

Then, driving in the outskirt of Qilian Mountains, which form the border between Qinghai Province and Gansu Province, i.e. an natural boundary of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and Hexi Corridor.

The terminal station of this mine railway, Mount Jingtie.(Train Number7529, 74km, 2h29min, 4yuan)

A minivan took me and some other tourists to nearby July 1st Glacier which was found on July 1st 1958 by Sino-Soviet expedition.
A 10-km hike was a total torture when I felt exhausted after 30-hour sitting in the hard seat without a sound sleep. I felt I could easily died from heart attack or encephaledema anytime.

It all paid back when you saw the glacier tongue.

Could I just jump down? I couldn't feel my legs!

I could hardly remember how I managed to climb back to the minivan...
I just remembered I was at last woken by my new friends when the train arrived in the city.
For the whole day, only this minivan visited July 1st Glacier.
