Hahahaha, wow, small world, man. In Japan we refer to this type of fishing as 'Ukai'. Anyways, the attire we use is identical to what you guys wear.

I agree. It's better to stay the entire trip in say Jiangnan region or Zhongyuan region, etc, to reduce travel time, and absorb the regional culture fully. Bunny-hopping across major cities lets you wonder where did you actually went?

From Lijiang, it took less than four hours by public to Shangri-La County at a distance of 200km. I visited this county both in 2010 and 2014. The road condition in 2014 was much better than in 2010, more tunnels and shortcuts, but sill far from the standards of an expressway. I've heard a brand new expressway is under construction and hope the process goes well given the fact that this road is going through one of the most geologically complicated regions in China, Three Parallel Rivers.

I canceled my plan to Deqin in 2010 when I heard the terrible road condition. This plan finally came true in Dec. 2014. The whole highway is a miracle given that this region's intimidating geology. Salute to its engineers, construction workers and linemen!

滇藏铁路将由不同路段组合而成：
昆明向西走行153公里到达广通，这是即有成昆线的一段，1969年通车运营；
广通到大理铁路，长度206公里，1998年建成。
大理到丽江段铁路全长164公里，2009年建成。
而丽江至香格里拉铁路正线全长139公里，预计2018年竣工。

香格里拉到拉萨段尚待建设，据铁二院原预可行性研究报告，并结合新形势修改，其走向为出中甸（香格里拉）后，穿越罗勒山（10.1千米隧道）、页卡（10.35千米隧道）、以15.85千米隧道穿越白马雪山至德钦，跨澜沧江，以15.65千米长隧道穿越梅里雪山进入西藏，到达碧土。然后转向北沿玉曲而上，经扎玉至左贡，再经田妥至邦达，与川藏铁路接轨。转向西，以长隧道绕避业拉山，跨怒江，抵达八宿。随后以约20公里长的隧道穿越念青唐古拉山，绕避然乌天险，抵达波密；再以2个长隧直通，绕避通麦天险，抵达林芝；此段线路总长约900公里。

林芝到拉萨段，则为规划中的青藏铁路延长线，全长573.3公里。

由此，滇藏铁路（昆明-拉萨）总计长约2100-2200公里。

In a nutshell, extension from Shangri-La to Lhasa is still under discussion. I dare to say, it will be a new wonder, much more splendid than Qinghai-Tibet line which is even easier than Yichang-Wanzhou Line.

You know, it's a buffet ! Normally, a hotpot which is not buffet in Shangri-la is 30-50RMB per person. It is the most famous one there and also recommended in Lonely Planet-Yunnan. But clearly not a high-end from its interior, which will include pricy mushroom, like several hundred per person
Like this one in downtown Shangri-La , A Bite of China Season One's recommendation, this whole set was 150RMB for three persons.
