Musharraf likely to visit his ailing mother in Dubai tomorrow

Former president and Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General (retd) Pervez Musharraf may leave the country tomorrow (Tuesday) evening, one day ahead of Nawaz Sharif’s election as the PM, to visit his ailing mother at a hospital in Dubai as she has developed a serious health problem.

He is currently in detention at his house in Shehzad Town in that has been declared prison by the authorities. He was placed on exit control list (ECL) by the director general immigration and passport on April 7 last after issuance of directive by Sindh High Court while granting him protective bail. A circular was issued to all the exit points including the airports not to let the former president leave the country.

Later the Supreme Court also directed authorities concerned to ensure that the former president didn’t leave the country. The order came as an SC bench took up high treason case against the former army chief and president of the country who ousted Nawaz Sharif’s government in 1999 in a bloodless coup by defying the constitution.

Well placed sources privy to the developments told The News/Jang here Sunday evening that an application for the bail would be adjudicated tomorrow (Tuesday) and with that he would be moving the learned court for scrapping his name from the ECL since he has to proceed to Dubai immediately for visiting his ailing mother.

The pre-arrest bail in the Nawab Akbar Bugti assassination case would be taken up by another court on Thursday next a day after assumption of the office of the Prime Minister by Nawaz Sharif. Pervez Musharraf would not be required to appear personally for the plea in the court for grant of pre-arrest bail.

In the meanwhile, sources in the interior ministry and the director general immigration and passport told this scribe that there is no truth about removal of the name of retired General Pervez Musharraf from the ECL unless the apex court issues order for the same. The speculation is baseless in this regard, the sources maintained.

he may not have, but he was asked not to come back, now things have changed again, Nawaz back in power with clear cut majority is a reality now, the army may want to avoid unnecessary issue out of his presence !

So why was he away from the country for 5-years?

I've my utmost respect and sympathies for Musharraf. He had been a great General and a 'Nadhar' human being but eventually the power corrupts and that's what made him hit the ground. He should've executed Zardari, Nawaz and Altaf... but he didn't know those same people drowned his boat of revival. I wish him good luck but he's history now.

Did'nt he have enough seats to form his own government?

lol you're behaving like @Leader has cooked the article himself, buddy its THE NEWS, so they'll be responsible if the report is not right.. And for PML-N, when they can let Raymond Davis escape in day light, what makes you think Mushy is different, all they need is an order from their masters, no matter if its Aimal Kansi, Raymond Davis, Mushy or anyone else..
