"Hyderabad, I think, will always be the capital of Telangana," Pillai, who is here on an overnight visit to the state, told reporters after a security review meeting.
The remarks of Pillai assume significance as the political backlash in Andhra Pradesh mounted with more MLAs resigning to protest the Centre's agreeing to the carving out of a separate Telangana state.
Pillai also said the agitation against Telangana would die down in the coming days once the people understand the real implication of what is meant.
"I'm sure that in the coming days, as people understand the real implication of what is meant, I think the agitation would die down and the process for formation of the new state would continue," he said.
Earlier, Pillai reviewed the security situation in the state.
Asked about the fate of the dialogue with separatists in the wake of an attack on senior Hurriyat leader Fazal Haq Quereshi, Pillai said "the dialogue must continue. I think everybody agrees that we can resolve problems only through dialogue and understanding of everybody's position."
He said Union home minister P Chidambaram has stated that he is willing to talk to everybody and that dialogue will continue.

LUCKNOW: After demanding creation of separate Bundelkhand and Paschimanchal states, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati today shot off a second letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking carving out of 'Poorvanchal' comprising eastern parts of the state. "The CM has written a letter to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh requesting him to give Centre's permission for creation of separate Poorvanchal state and expediting the constitutional procedure in that regard," Additional Cabinet Secretary Vijay Shanker Pandey told reporters here.
Favouring carving out of smaller states, Mayawati had on Friday written to Singh seeking the Centre's consent for the creation of separate states of Bundelkhand and western Uttar Pradesh on the lines of demand for a Telangana state.
The state government had earlier through a letter sent in March last year had apprised the Centre of its clear opinion on carving out a separate Poorvanchal state, Pandey said.
"The government had also expressed its clear opinion on this issue in the state assembly on October 31, 2007. Once the permission is received, the state government will get a resolution for Poorvanchal state passed in the assembly and forward it to the Centre," he said.
Pandey said that the chief minister in her letter has said that creation of Poorvanchal was necessary for better administrative management and keeping in mind the expectations and aspirations of the local populace.
"The chief minister has repeatedly stated that she was in favour of smaller states and supports creation of a separate Poorvanchal state," he said.
The Additional Cabinet Secretary said Mayawati in her letter pointed out that Poorvanchal region of UP was very backward socially and economically, which resulted in poverty.
"To remove regional imbalance and to accelerate development of the state, incorporating the needs of Poorvanchal region, the state government had earlier forwarded a proposal to the Centre requesting it to sanction a special package of Rs 80,000 crore," he said.
Pandey said that Mayawati in her letter also requested Singh to get the required financial assistance sanctioned at the earliest.
"It is not possible to meet the development demands of the state from internal resources, therefore a special package had been demanded," he said.
On December 11, Mayawati had sought the Centre's consent for the creation of separate states of Bundelkhand and Paschimanchal.
"I have renewed the demand for smaller states through a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to give consent to UP as it has given to Andhra Pradesh for setting up a separate Telangana state," Mayawati had told reporters.

nothing is gonna happen ...these political scumbags of telugu desam party wanted a partition of andra coz they did not get a peice of the pie so they wanted a state where they were majority........telengana will not come to force coz the entire state is protesting against the creation! right from students to politicians.....a lot of MPs ANDMLA'sof andra have resigned ...so no way athat telangana can be carved out.....

the mess for creation of other states is a warning to the cental govt that if telangana is created for the demand of a few corrupt politicians who threten to fast unto death then many such things will open up/.....evvery one wants to have a go at the cong govt for their hasty decision.....the whole of andra is in protesta against such a division!!!

Police arrested at least seven followers of the Vijayawada MP while they were coming to the city a day ahead of his hunger strike to protest the proposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) A R Anuradha told reporters that no permission has been given to stage the hunger strike in the city. "We are collecting information and will take appropriate action," she said.
The police also appealed to people to inform them of any suspicious movement of people in the city.
Police have clamped prohibitory orders, barring any gathering of more than four persons, as a precautionary measure in view of Rajagopal's plans to go on fast in front of the state assembly building.
Rajagopal has submitted his resignation to the Lok Sabha Speaker to protest the Central government's decision to initiate the process for granting separate statehood to Telangana.
Senior Congress leader and former minister P. Goverdhan Reddy demanded that the MP be arrested on his arrival in Hyderabad. He warned of bloodshed if Rajagaopal undertook a fast in Hyderabad.
Talking to reporters, Goverdhan Reddy alleged that the industrialist MP was bringing hired goons from Vijayawada to create disturbances in Hyderabad.
"He made crores of rupees in Hyderabad and is now using the same money for blackmail," said Goverdhan Reddy.
Congress leader and former minister Jeevan Reddy also alleged Rajagopal wanted to provoke people of Telangana and said nobody could stop the formation of Telangana state.
Another former minister and legislator, R Damodar Reddy took exception to the MP's remark about Hyderabad and said he was not aware of the city's history.
"Hyderabad will be the capital of Telangana state," he said and hoped that Congress president Sonia Gandhi would carve out the separate state either through a resolution in the assembly or through a bill in parliament.
Groups fighting for separate statehood for the Telangana region have also warned Rajagopal against launching hunger strike in Hyderabad. He could do so in Vijayawada or some other part of Andhra or Rayalaseema, they said.

Tension prevailed at SK University in Anantapur as students held a meeting opposing the division of the state.
In Vijayawada city in the coastal Krishna district, main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) legislators D. Umamaheswar Rao and Ramakotaiah and former mayor Anuradha began an indefinite hunger strike Sunday.
"We will call off our fast only after the centre takes back its decision to form a separate Telangana state," said Rao, who is among the 130 legislators of the TDP, ruling Congress and Praja Rajyam Party who have submitted their resignations to the assembly speaker.
A group of students at Andhra University in Visakhapatnam continued their hunger strike for the third day.

Thousands of passengers had a tough time as Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) suspended its services in the two regions. Schools, colleges, shops and other business establishments remained closed.
The fast-unto-death launched by students besides the relay hunger fast continued in Visakhapatnam. Protesters have also planned demonstrations in the port city during the
day.
Similar hunger fasts were also observed in Kadapa, Kurnool and Chittor districts in Rayalaseema region. In Vijayawada, banks, ATMs and business establishments remained closed. (Watch: Andhra can't be cut into pieces, say people of Vijayawada)
Deputy Traffic Manger of APSRTC in Vijayawada Sudhakar said a decision on resuming services would be taken around noon after reviewing the situation.

hyderabad: Hyderabad Police on Sunday said they have not permitted Congress MP from Vijaywada L Rajagopal to go on hunger strike in Hyderabad and leaders of his own party from the Telangana region demanded his arrest.
Police arrested at least seven followers of the Vijayawada MP while they were coming to the city a day ahead of his hunger strike to protest the proposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) A R Anuradha told reporters that no permission has been given to stage the hunger strike in the city. "We are collecting information and will take appropriate action," she said.
The police also appealed to people to inform them of any suspicious movement of people in the city.
Police have clamped prohibitory orders, barring any gathering of more than four persons, as a precautionary measure in view of Rajagopal's plans to go on fast in front of the state assembly building.
Rajagopal has submitted his resignation to the Lok Sabha Speaker to protest the Central government's decision to initiate the process for granting separate statehood to Telangana.
Senior Congress leader and former minister P. Goverdhan Reddy demanded that the MP be arrested on his arrival in Hyderabad. He warned of bloodshed if Rajagaopal undertook a fast in Hyderabad.
Talking to reporters, Goverdhan Reddy alleged that the industrialist MP was bringing hired goons from Vijayawada to create disturbances in Hyderabad.
"He made crores of rupees in Hyderabad and is now using the same money for blackmail," said Goverdhan Reddy.
Congress leader and former minister Jeevan Reddy also alleged Rajagopal wanted to provoke people of Telangana and said nobody could stop the formation of Telangana state.
Another former minister and legislator, R Damodar Reddy took exception to the MP's remark about Hyderabad and said he was not aware of the city's history.
"Hyderabad will be the capital of Telangana state," he said and hoped that Congress president Sonia Gandhi would carve out the separate state either through a resolution in the assembly or through a bill in parliament.
Groups fighting for separate statehood for the Telangana region have also warned Rajagopal against launching hunger strike in Hyderabad. He could do so in Vijayawada or some other part of Andhra or Rayalaseema, they said.
hyderabad: Protests continued in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions of Andhra Pradesh for the third day on Sunday against the Centre's decision to initiate the process for separate statehood to the Telangana region.
Cutting across party lines, political activists, students and other groups took out rallies, staged sit-ins and relay hunger strikes, and blocked road and rail traffic opposing the proposed division of the state.
Sporadic incidents of violence were reported from some parts of the two regions as the protests affected normal life.
The state-owned Road Transport Corporation (RTC) resumed services partially in most parts of the nine districts of coastal Andhra and four districts of Rayalaseema regions.
Raising slogans of "Samaikhya Andhra" (united Andhra), protesters took out rallies and forced shutdowns in some areas.
Protesters also attacked the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) office at Guntakul in Anantapur district and damaged oil tankers.
Tension prevailed at SK University in Anantapur as students held a meeting opposing the division of the state.
In Vijayawada city in the coastal Krishna district, main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) legislators D. Umamaheswar Rao and Ramakotaiah and former mayor Anuradha began an indefinite hunger strike Sunday.
"We will call off our fast only after the centre takes back its decision to form a separate Telangana state," said Rao, who is among the 130 legislators of the TDP, ruling Congress and Praja Rajyam Party who have submitted their resignations to the assembly speaker.
A group of students at Andhra University in Visakhapatnam continued their hunger strike for the third day.

Bandhs and protests over the Centre's move to create a separate Telangana state continued
for the second day on Saturday, affecting normal life in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions of Andhra Pradesh. There are reports of trains being stopped as part of agitation.
There are also reports of massive protests in Anantpur in Rayalaseema, the nerve centre of anti-Telangana protests in Andhra, where students of S K University set fire in a BSNL godown where cables were lying.
Thousands of passengers had a tough time as Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) suspended its services in the two regions. Schools, colleges, shops and other business establishments remained closed.
The fast-unto-death launched by students besides the relay hunger fast continued in Visakhapatnam. Protesters have also planned demonstrations in the port city during the
day.
Similar hunger fasts were also observed in Kadapa, Kurnool and Chittor districts in Rayalaseema region. In Vijayawada, banks, ATMs and business establishments remained closed. (Watch: Andhra can't be cut into pieces, say people of Vijayawada)
Deputy Traffic Manger of APSRTC in Vijayawada Sudhakar said a decision on resuming services would be taken around noon after reviewing the situation.
Vijayawada Railway station Manager Bashker said restrictions have been imposed on the speed of trains in view of the rail blockades and other agitations.
Congress, Telugu Desam and Praja Rajyam parties are expected to meet in the evening to decide the future course of agitation.
