AMRITSAR: "Pakistan will soon announce the most favoured nation (MFN) status to India," said Naeem Anwar, minister (trade) Pakistan high commission, while addressing a session on "Doing business with Pakistan" organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here on Wednesday.
"With the new government in Pakistan, the relations between India and Pakistan are bound to improve manifold," he said and added that easier visa norms will go a long way in enhancing business ties between the two countries. In the present scenario of global slowdown, regional ties were the best way to ensure economic growth. India and Pakistan need to look beyond politics. There was immense demand for each other's products in both countries and both the countries should take advantage of this. He said the Indian businessmen could approach Trade Development Authority in Pakistan for any issues.
CII organised the session to apprise the business community of Amritsar on how it can globalize its businesses and take advantage of various opportunities existing in the neighbouring country. CII's former chairman Gunbir Singh said time is now ripe to take the trade relationship between the two nations to the next level. The potential is at least 10 times the present trade level. However, anomalies such as the full application of negative list to Attari trade post without restrictions, scanned container interchange, easy visas, and enhanced parallel infrastructure on Pak side will release a mutual bonanza for both Punjabs.
