i don't think they skip anything. cbers-2b, a china-brazil satellite launched in 2007 also has similar resolution to the gaofen-1 launched in 2012, but only 27 km swath. that is 7 years time to work on the gaofen-2 that just recently launched. again, those are just satellites with all their specs known to public.......... if they want to jump to higher res quick, i don't see much problem as already explained in previous pages by people here. so far, china does not seem to go that route. they want high res and huge area coverage. no compromise lol
