The Royal Moroccan Navy has contracted Netherlands-based Damen Shipyards to build a water barge to help relieve the severe drought in the country, the company announced on 15 August.

Damen said this would be the first time that it will combine its Stan Pontoon 3011 barge with water-making technology and that it aimed to deliver the vessel before the end of September. It said the vessel will be fitted with an energy-efficient reverse osmosis system capable of making 1,500 m 3 (1.5 million litres) of drinking water an hour.
