Days after a visit by US General David Patraeus, Pakistan security forces are claiming they have killed local Taliban commander Omer Khalid.

Khalid was allegedly killed Wednesday evening, in a clash that also killed eight other militants in the Lakarho Tehsil Qandharo area of Mohmand Agency, the area adjacent to Afghanistan and Bajaur Agency. Fifteen militants were also reportedly killed in Tehsil Pandalai. A military source informed that this was a major breakthrough for security forces after a heavy, two-week assault against radical militants.

A Taliban spokesman in Mohmand Agency, Ikram, denied the killing of Omer Khalid and said that Khalid had moved to safe area as part of their strategy. However, military sources are adamant about their claim.

The operation was launched with light and heavy machine gunfirs and was a continuation of yesterday's operation, in which 60 militants were killed.

Local sources say that security forces celebrated Omer Khalid's death with aerial firing and shahdhola, a traditional tribal dance.

Omer Khalid was a close aide of Taliban mastermind Baitulla Mehsood, and was considered to 'No. 3' in the Taliban hierarchy.

Security forces have launched fresh operations in Mohmand Agencythat became more severe this week as this was a third major assault killed thirteen militants last Wednesday and 60 others yesterday.

The death of Omer Khalid would be considered a major loss to Tehreke Taliban as he was a leading figure and engaged in managing the activities of the Taliban in Mohmand Agency for the last two years.

Today's operation against the militants was launched after visit of General David Petraeus, US Commander for Southwest Asia to Pakistan, and before arrival of NATO chief Jaap De Shap Hooper to Pakistan.

Its unfortunate for the Army and people of Pakistan that our Army is deployed against its own citizens on its own soil. This is a criminal misuse of our national asset, just to keep the USA in good humor, and to prevent it from threatening us.

It is cynical to gloat over the “capture” of Pakistani territory by the Army, or the killing of its citizens. You don’t “Crush” anything this way. You just spread more hatred against the Army, sapping its moral, and demolishing its combat capabilities.
i think you need to broaden your horizon.
It is not the Army pitched against 'own' people....i feel sorry that you still live in the fools paradise and refuse to understand that this all(Baluchistan, Wana and Swat) stuff is part of the 'big' game, or to be specific the 'big oil game'.

They want to divide us!

You know that they want to put our existence at stake, and this is the only way to do that.

They very well know that when ever we are targeted externally we become ONE, one as if we never have fought with each other. We know that all the archenemies inside Pakistan join hands with each other when ever we feel threatened from the outside, the recent indo-Pak tension can be the best example.

But....
our enemies also know that we are quite sensitive about our traditions so they are targeting it, making us fight with each other with a difference that our stupid (not all) nation don't understand that either we are killing own people or actually it is our enemy disguised inside us and pretending to be one of ours!!!

It's unfortunate for the Army and people of Pakitan that our own people in FATA are fighting against their fellow citizens in their own country. This is a criminal misuse of Pakistan's Nationality, just to fulfill their religious agenda and to get 72 virgins after death.
You don't spread “Islam” this way.You just spread more hatred against Pakistan in the international world.

killing 60 or 100 is not part of any solution. in the end we will have to talk to them. we are fighting ppl who are already willing to die. and there are more ppl coming in from afghanistan and other part of central asia. they are gettin foreign support. fighting with them means doin wat those foreign hands want us to do.
we bomb them. only few of them die while many houses get destroyed. a child who watchin his house goin up in ashes will grow up with anti army feeling and will one day join the enemy. lik everyone says on this forum 'enemy of my enemy is my friend'. we need to start thinkin for ourselves and not for US. once this war is over dont expect US to give us money for building those houses. remember when USSR left? its goin to be the same this time.
initially they said there are only 1500 of them. we have killed more than thousand and now they say there are 15000 of them. we will kill 15000 and they ll come to know that now there are 150000 of them.
the question is are they lyin OR more ppl have started fighting pak army along these talibans?????? wat else can our enemies dream for?????

the government has said if the militants are willing to lay down there arms then we are ready to talk to them. the main point is that the government wants to negotiate from a position of strength not weakness.

you are rit and i would also lik to see the same. but the question is how to bring them to table. they are not willing to lay down arms. bec of this we are killing our own pp and situation is only gettin worse. if army pulls out, taliban will take over. if army stays, anti army feeling will grow. these politicians need to act fast.
