Then why would India be purchasing enough Derby to be fit on 200 jets ??/ Believe it or not mate, its not meant for just FOC. I am not saying that in future no other BVR can find its place on the wings of LCA but right now Derby is there for that purpose. I think in future Astra will be fitted but i don't see a need to purchase R77 since we already are purchasing Derby now.The choice of Derby is not surprising as it is not selected as a standard BVR weapon for the LCA. Rather it will be used to demonstrate the BVR capacity of the Tejas to gain the FOC.

Why the hell will you fit a 1000 km range subsonic cruise missile with 1000 kg weight on a small jet like LCA ??/ Seriously mate it won't do any good also. It not like Brahmos, its a 1000km range subsonic cruise missile. We don't need a jet to carry it and thats the purpose of making a long range subsonic cruise missile that we don't need anything to carry it to deliver it to the target. Using Nirbhay from its usual launchers will be good enough for us. Also LCA is not meant meant actually for an anti-ship operations. Although it can do that job also...Nirbhay will qualify for the centreline pylon of LCA mk2. And it is not a distant thing, you will see it complete the development cycle by 2015.
Thanx for giving some useful information....
Also can somebody tell me whether we are still pursuing Mayawi ?? Any timeline for its ? Will it be there in LCA mk2 ?
Is there any new update about aesa and the partner along with whom we will develop it ??? Or are we going solo on aesa ??
