JF-17’s make for weak show of strength by Pakistan | Fighter Jet News

Now however, that is no longer the case, with India starting to, very slowly, produce the Tejas LCA, as well as having signed a deal with France for the far superior Rafale. Whether the escort will have convinced Xi Jinping to offer Pakistan a deal where J-10s are concerned (which would at least provide some parity compared to India) remains to be seen.

I am interested in the last para only-- instead of chest beating, our media should point out the widening technological gap with india --- in the same way indian media cries wolf every day and is getting funds released for iaf

Exactly. The whole idea missed by the unknown writer on a half built website indicates it is just a desperate hoolahoop. Much like Indians.

JF-17 didn't even 'escort' because they weren't armed. It was more of a good will gesture.
Even PAF has euro typhoon or Su-35. They will not used it for this gesture. JF-17 made in Pakistan and a joint collaboration is purposely used for this event.

Either you have been asked to ensure threads run longer or you are a troll who like to bash India for no reason.

PAF could have used F-16s, or whichever are the most recent versions of the Mirages. It was a gesture, that shows how much trust pakistan is willing to put into the jet. Here's the thing if Jf-17 was not good at defending the Chinese would have insisted on something better, I don't think the PM had a death wish.

Escorting China’s leader, Xi Jinping, must have been a bittersweet moment for the Pakistani Air Force. On the one hand sending up an ochtet of JF-17s to watch over the President as he flew from Beijing to Islamabad, the first visit to Pakistan by a Chinese leader since 2006, was doubtless an impressive show of strength. On the other hand it must have driven home the fact of Pakistan’s weakness in not being able to afford anything better.
JF-17’s make for weak show of strength by Pakistan | Fighter Jet News
The JF-17 or joint fighter was developed as a cooperative enterprise by both countries but the aircraft, for all that it offers a desirable simplicity in terms of it’s design, is very much a case of making the best of a bad situation for Pakistan. Islamabad wants to buy more advanced designs such as the J-10 and J-31 from China but can’t afford to do so. In addition China’s manufacture of the JF-17, or FC-1 Fierce Dragon as it is known east of the border, only serves to undercut Pakistan’s hopes of exporting the type.

For China plans to use the type for diplomatic purposes, using it to expand its sphere of influence by strengthening ties with countries that, for whatever reason, won’t be lining up to open contracts to western competition. Unfortunately for Pakistan, such countries are its natural market for the JF-17, but why buy it from Pakistan when you can lease from China?

The alliance between the two countries, in place since 1965, has generally allowed Pakistan to keep pace with India, as did American efforts to entice Pakistan back towards the West by selling early model F-16s.

Now however, that is no longer the case, with India starting to, very slowly, produce the Tejas LCA, as well as having signed a deal with France for the far superior Rafale. WHAT A LEVEL OF WISDOM
can smell some sort of pain inflicted by this Chinese President visit....just like indian mind

The nonesical article has so many flaws in it, firstly it wasn't a first visit by a Chinese Leader since 2006, Premier Li Keqiang visited in 2013 when he was given an escort by six JF-17s.
As for JF-17, it's a prime symbol of strategic co-operation between the two countries. The author seems a typical Indian living in oblivion who seems to give credit to a twenty year late running LCA Tejas and yet to be inducted Rafales and has conveniently ignored the Block-52 and other upgraded F-16s in PAF inventory. There's a reason the JF-17 is even displayed on welcome banners.

After a couple of months of indian media crying wolf, IAF got what it needed

This is the strength of the media which pressurises the gov to release funds and to make the public aware of the need of hi tech 'toys'.

Our media touts every thing as ''jadeed tareen, state of the art'' -- when you tout every thing like that, then the need for credible weapons isnt required in the eyes of the people / politicians

Members, look at the bolded part of the above mentioned article-note the change of tone now that rafale and mki have been ordered - now does it mention a 2 front war anywhere?
I dont give a shit to the part that you people are wasting your energy on

Misleading reports related to IAF capability and Pakistani media bravado
Manticore

Recently a lot of reports are surfacing from India regarding its air force's acquisition problems. The Indian media is patriotic, intelligent and far sighted enough to provide its people with a false sense of insecurity so as to stress upon the government to provide necessary funds for IAF for modernization.

The Indian media conveniently leaves a lot of stats out of the report whereby giving a very gloomy and dismal outlook of the IAF's capabilities. Pakistan's media is stupid enough to take that report on face value and starts chest thumping thus playing its part in consolidating indian government's pledge for further hike in defence budget.

Just by glancing on the first page of the airforce subforum, we have two baseless threads.
''Pakistan Air Force has an edge over Indian Air Force: Indian Parliamentary panel''
''Indian Air Force faces risk as PAK, China modernise airforce: report''
''India's ailing air force at risk in tough neighborhood''

Below is a graph showing different generations of aircrafts in PAF inventory. The BVR capable fighters would be the only single engine 4/4+ generation fighter which constitutes a little over 25% of the entire fleet!

n1LZRPi.jpg

As most of PAF's fighters are over 20 years old, their crash rates are gradually
taking their toll on paf fighter aircraft numbers. A lot of fighter pilots have lost
their lives because of the age of the aircraft fleet.

The production rate of the 4rth generation bvr capable JF-17 fighter has been alarmingly slow and is a matter of great concern for the people. These aircrafts are not the cutting edge of technology, however they allow paf to retire old 2nd generation fighters and thus save the lives of its young pilots both in war and peace.

Aircraft enthusiasts also recall the Mirage 2000 saga where a very potent aircraft was not inducted due to unknown reasons. The acquisition of 4.5 generation J-10 aircraft also seems to be put on the back burner. One can only hope that the economical situation in Pakistan becomes better so we can see induction of new platforms, more F-16s and long range surface to air missiles.

The Indian 4.5 generation Su 30MKI with a huge 1500Km combat radius is capable of deep strikes in Pakistan. It is augmented with Mig29 and Mirage2000 both of which are also latest bvr capable fighters. These make over 300 bvr capable fighters not to mention the latest upgrades on their large fleet of 3rd generation fighters. None of the PAF aircrafts match the 200 su30 mki in their range and weapons payload capacity.

Even after the above quantitative and qualitative comparison, IAF is planning
to further induct another 126+ 4.5 generation rafale fighters not to mention
5th generation fighters like pak-fa and fgfa which will skyrocket the qualitative and quantitative edge that India already possesses. Pakistan can not afford a complete generation gap in capability and might need to induct 5th generation fighters at the same pace as India as you cant bring a knife in a gun fight. That would translate into the chinese J31 induction in paf. It's cost and capability remains to be seen. The Indian Navy plans to establish three naval aircraft squadrons that will fly MiG-29K/KUB.

In the past 7 years, PAF has inducted AWACS, Air refuelers and BVR platforms which is a testament to the higher ups in PAF who have infused these much needed capabilities rather quickly. PAF has maintained it's high level of training. Now Pakistan is slowly increasing the number of BVR capable aircrafts with better avionics and standoff weapons. There is a speculation that JF-17 block2 would be a much more capable platform than blk1.

This is just a request by air force enthusiasts to the Pakistani media to not to propagate Indian reports / propaganda without doing some in depth research on the matter. PAF does not have qualitative and quantitative edge over IAF.

Which means PAF has only 125 BVR capable fighters.

Well, Indian media one day claims that IAF can fight on two fronts simultaneously, next day they seem to portray IAF incompetent to defend on a single front much less fight on two. Seems as if Indian media wants to publish what the Indian public wants to hear but then gets a rude awakening. The Commanders from both sides would reassure their people with their capabilities but at least the Pakistani media hasn't adopted the slavish attitude of their opposite number who have even gone as far as giving a breakdown of the ten Indian steps to the destruction of Pakistan. ...Bravo.

It took Indians a decade to decide on their MMRCA and three years after selecting the Rafale, it only orders two squadron which if all goes well, the first aircraft will be inducted in another two years time. The MKI is nothing new, i rather have more surprises like the Jordanian F-16s than to sit and wait for paint to dry.
