Midrise Architecture in Dhaka Bangladesh

New residential project by BORAK real estate, 'Minerva'. Just one of several hundred 15 story condo towers going up almost anyplace in Dhaka. Use of glass walls and texture cladding has increased compared to a decade ago.

Another planned residential community from Borak - 'Pragati Sharani'. Same name as the road it is on - 'Pragati Sharani' means 'Progress Way' in Bangla.

Twenty story condo projects in mid town Dhaka are now becoming more numerous which shows that land has become way expensive in Banani/Gulshan for new projects. Some examples (Image rights LaMudi).

Square Hospital complex near Panthapath. Image copyright Rimon Rahman. 'Panthapath' is a poetic name penned by the former dictator Hussain Muhammad Ershad. 'Panthapath' means 'Sunset Way' in Bengali and the narrow road does run East-West. Although a dictator - Ershad was the most poetic and fancily dressed (picture Lanvin Cravats) of all our dictators. :rolleyes1:

For those with the means and time - there is a growing need to get away from the hustle and bustle that is Dhaka. 'KaalMegh' - A waterside resort property not far from Dhaka.

Back in post 148 I had alluded to a hotel construction boom. The first few completions are underway. One of them (300 room five star Le Meridien) is close to Hazrat Shahjalal Airport in an area known as North Nikunja (Airport Road) Dhaka. Couple of images courtesy of the developer, Best Holdings.

Since interior design is connected to architecture - hopefully it won't be too off topic to post some interior design work done locally. Images courtesy BHLBD.

South 50-53 Apartments in Dhaka Bangladesh by Arch. Rafiq Azam (Shatotto). This project is barely a couple of years old and has already won numerous architectural innovation awards. I had posted a few pics sometime ago. Here's some more.

Some Hamdard University renders... Hamdard exists in Delhi and Islamabad, but this is the new planned Dhaka Campus. The permanent campus of Hamdard University Bangladesh (HUB) in a 100 acre site (1.5 Million sq.ft.) is situated at Gazaria, Munshiganj about twenty miles outside Dhaka on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in a picturesque location bounded by the Meghna and Phuldi Rivers. The site is within a half-mile of the Meghna Bridge.

Some renders for locally designed Amari Hotel. I did post some actual interior shots some time back. The interior did turn out very similar to the renders - I guess no surprise there :-)

Some recent examples of Dhaka market interior design work completed ('Anik Residence'). Not down my alley but definitely for those who like the rich mahogany paneled look.

One of the perks of a low-paying Govt. job in Bangladesh is free housing, and the following shows a new Officers' Quarters built for a Govt. outfit called the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation.
