Mehbooba Mufti meets Indian PM with request to address Kashmir issue

NEW DELHI, Feb. 19 (APP) Mehboob Mufti, President of People’s Democratic Party here on Friday met Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and requested him to address internal and external dimensions of the Kashmir issue.The meeting which was held ahead of Pak-India Secretary -level talks focused Kashmir-related issues.

Mehbooba said sustained talks between the two countries are needed with focus on Kashmir apart from other issues.
Mehbooba appreciated the decision to resume official contact with Pakistan and stressed the need for a sustained dialogue which must focus on Kashmir apart from other problems between the two nations.
She expressed concern at the rising incidents of innocent killings in occupied Kashmir. Mehbooba told Manmohan Singh that these incidents have a negative fallout on the thought process of the people.
There is no alternative to a peaceful resolution and CBMs could not be a substitute to it, she said.
She also expressed concern over arrest of some Kashmiri youth in Pune after the blast there. She said it was unfortunate that Kashmiris were seen with suspicion in other states.
Meanwhile, in his Juma sermon in Srinagar, APHC leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq said talks between Pakistan and India would be a futile exercise without discussing the Kashmir issue.
