MEDIA OUTLET REPORTS POSSIBLE AIR DEFENCE DEAL BETWEEN PAKISTAN AND THALES

Fiscal limits notwithstanding, which one on the market is a good system? To me it seems that the Saab Giraffe 1X is similar in concept to the Siemens MPDR, except the Giraffe 1X is an X-band AESA radar. But, it only has a range of 75 km. There is the Saab Giraffe 4A S-band AESA radar, it has a range of 280 km.

I am not a radar guy, so I can't really say, but anything that is instrumented out to 180-160 Kms, and is 15 RPM to 30 RPM (4 second or 2 second refresh), fully mobile, aircraft transportable. The best radars in this area Israelis.

Just like HMD/S :(

I dont agree. The best HMDS is Marconi.
You mean the Striker II? I agree with you in that technically it is the best (e.g. digital display), but it appears that Elbit has the lead in managing cost and penetrating the market. Their DASH platform is produced in several forms (e.g. JHMCS). Even the Gripen NG is going to use it (i.e. Elbit Targo).

You are right. Marconi seems to have lost their ability to market products.

Pakistani MoDP reported purchase of 'Radar Integ EW Sys/ELINT Sys' in its yearbook.

Selex ES KRONOS was selected by Qatar for its low level radar requirement. I hope PAF officials take the pains and buy the Italian radars. :rolleyes1:

Please! no need to call me sir, it does not justify and besides makes me look old
My contention with all of this was and to some extent still is that i dont know why but i get this impression that when it comes to India Pakistan countries try to further their agenda at our expense. This was the case with US most of times since we heard them saying too many times how its Pakistans responsibility alone to improve relations with its neighbours. I think part of the problem is as you yourself also stated are the political elites of Pakistan. Since these countries know that naming or shaming Pakistan in a hostile country would not create a diplomatic spat with Pakistan, hence they do it with impunity but IMO no country should be allowed to further their interests at our expense even if that means endorsing fake surgical strikes just to please Indians.
From now on no body call you sir, trust me Baba jee:cheers:

I am huge fan of Italian stuff and it will give Jf17 not new teeth but additional jaws as per requirement

.
Per paf history paf still satisfied with mpdr and some mods were done to keep them up to date additional Chinese ylc-6 radar are of same Category were added mpdr 45, 90 and ylc now provides low level but again paf history covered 1999 to 2013 so

I would be suprised it is something marginal like short range defence system/ radar
As we already have good command over short range , manual systems.
I think if our engineers put their minds to it they could make something for Short range automated solution

FM-90/LY-80 have also enhanced out mid range game

This would certainly have to be good quality Radar System , Next Gen type addition to enhance our defences. Together with the helmet based targeting tech

Hard to determine what would be a good Radar as I am not well versed on Radar Tech

I guess the report is about land based system not airborne ones (not JFT and not abot HMD.)

That means you have not seen Italian stuff up close.

The whole low level needs replacement, all MPDRs, ARGOS 73, and Giraffe, including YLC6, which should not have been purchased in the first place.

What equipment you think is good to handle current and future threats??

New Giraffe AESA radar series looks good, what you think? Any potent western radar which we can afford?

The Saab Giraffe 1X, 4A and 8A AESA radars appear to be nice radars, but they're new designs with no real-world adoption. If Pakistan selects either (or all), it would basically be the first customer - better exact a good price and some benefits, lest we end up with false positives. Having followed @Bilal Khan 777 for a while on this forum, it appears that the defence industry is full of false positives, be it in the West or in China. Countries usually have strengths, and where possible, Pakistan would like to play to those strengths than to be a 'fanboi'.
