Once you compromise on basic principle, you are on a very slippery slope... hundreds of years of painstaking building of a civilized society thrown away just because you face terror threat.

At the current stage, no. But the situation does have the potential to spill beyond the severity of the IRA period. I don't think of it as compromising on basic principles, I think of it as evolving as a society. My parents tell me of the period when UK was open to everyone and issued visas on arrival to anyone, now, they have one of the most strict visa regimens in the free world. To say that they have compromised on the principles of free entry would be one way of looking at it, but in my opinion, they have evolved in attempt to safeguard their national interests in a changing world.

its one thing to question them.. but why 'guilty until proven innocent'? we got a sizable iraqi community in UK ,who might need to travel.

They are not guilty per se. Rather they would be arrested on suspicion of terrorism or questioned at least.

Exactly bro. its with this docile/soft/political correctness mentality that britain has become a haven for jihadists/mulsim extremists/fanatics in Europe. If you look at foreign european fighters in from Europe fighting in Syria/Iraq, majority or almost 80% are british. We have allowed them to get away too easy, and government is afraid of even bringing those guilty to book. Just look at the hate muslim extremist preacher Abu Hamza's case. Pathetic.

Brits need to grow some balls and revoke/nullify citizenship of any one visiting these countries. Make them stateless and leave them to rot in hellhole they are creating.

Well, it is the core of all modern legal system, not just limited to UK. It is kinda surprising that an in-office politician would make this kind of statement, but then again this is Boris Johnson we are talking about...
