Mark 2 Tejas revealed . 1st Flight 2023

Actually according to Indonesian Aerospace official, there is country who want to buy N 250 (or N 2130) blueprint in early 2000 when IMF forbid Indonesia government to inject money for the projects. We were at messy Asian Financial Crisis during that time. So buying other country aircarft blue print is not something unusual.

Only if you have the same or similar battle field scenario as the other country.
In last 80s, Chinese desperately need an interceptor against Soviet's backfire while Israel needed a domestic multiple role "F-16". Lavi and J-10 was designed from for different job from beginning. Modifying Lavi's blueprint into J-10 was purely waste of time and money, it would be much easier to design your own fighter from scratch.

File photo of Tejas-Mk 1A. With increase in range and payload capability, the new variant will be much superior than Tejas Mark-IA, HAL chief R. Madhavan said.

A more potent version of the indigenous Tejas multirole combat jet featuring a much powerful engine, greater load carrying capability, next-generation electronic warfare system and an array of superior avionics is expected to be rolled out next year and its first high-speed trials will start in 2023, Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. R. Madhavan has said.

He said the structural package and other work on the Tejas Mark II is progressing well and its production is likely to start somewhere around 2025.

He said the upgraded version will have a bigger fuselage, longer range, better maintainability, greater load carrying capability, much stronger engine power and superior net-centric warfare systems.

With increase in range and payload capability, Mr. Madhavan said the new variant will be much superior than Tejas Mark-IA, 73 of which are being procured by the Indian Air Force from the HAL under a ₹48,000 crore deal that was approved by the government on January 13.

"Tejas Mark II is likely to roll out by August-September of 2022 after that the first flight will take some time. The first high-speed trial of the jet will start in 2023 and we expect the production to start somewhere around 2025," Mr. Madhavan told PTI.

Asked about the weapon package for Tejas Mark II, Mr. Madhavan did not give a direct reply and said it will be decided at a later stage depending on requirement and changing dynamics.

Tejas is a single engine and highly agile multi-role supersonic fighter manufactured by the State-run HAL.
The aircraft is a potent platform for air combat and offensive air support with reconnaissance and anti-ship operations as its secondary roles.

The Tejas Mk-1A will be equipped with an active electronically scanned array radar, beyond visual range missile, electronic warfare suite and air-to-air refuelling system.

On the next generation advanced multi-role combat aircraft (AMCA) project, the HAL chairman and managing director said the aim was to implement the project under the framework of a special purpose vehicle also involving private sector players.

India is working on the fifth-generation medium weight deep penetration fighter jet and the project is estimated to cost around $5 billion.

Mr. Madhavan said the prototype of the aircraft is likely to be ready by 2026 and its production could start by 2030. He added that the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) was working on the timelines for the project.

"It is still in the initial design stage. We are trying to get into a SPV route where HAL and DRDO will be partners and we will try to bring in some private players, at least two. We want them [private players] to have a slight majority [stakes] so that it does not become a government entity," he said.

Mr. Madhavan said the thinking has been that the private players could hold 50.5% stakes in the venture so that it is deemed as private though there will be provisions for audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).

"What we are planning to do is to get the prototypes made by the HAL without going to any SPV route. Once we do that, then we will ask them [private players] to join hands. They will have to put in at least ₹2,500 crore. We will put in ₹2,500 crore as initial investment," he said.

Mr. Madhavan suggested that the implementation of the project under the SPV route will cut procedural delays.
The HAL chairman and managing director said the ₹48,000 crore Tejas project will significantly boost the aerospace sector in India and it will have ripple effects on implementation of various ambitious programmes.

Mr. Madhavan said that Tejas Mark 1A jet has superior performance levels compared to China's JF-17 combat aircraft as it has better engine, radar system, electronic warfare suit besides having edge on the overall technology.

Great work
Will be record to get ready a new jet within 5 years/2025

However it should be renamed as it really isnt tejas
Previously we have aeen new jets using old names but that is basically to promote the legacy of old jets
It is not a new jet but a modified structure of Tejas MK1, Mk2 will be bigger and will feature canards.
Length the fuselage put canards change engines

If this not a new jet then no jet aircraft are new since the f16 came in
Your changing EVERYTHING
from flight control to landing gear
From engine to rudder to fly by wire to cockpit to avionics

NOTHING will be same

Its even a bigger chnage the gripen NG which is essentially a new plan and took 8+ years to develop

Wnlarged fuselage it means its a new fighter and requires much more testing

5 yrs ? No way. Even if they do everything right it would still need 7-8yrs
Not for HAL
They have track record proving they can develop a plan within 4-5 years

For example original tejas first flew in 2001 when work begin in late 1994..so probbaly they can fly it by 2025

whether it will be finish porduct or not is the real question

they have till 2030 to finish it

It isn't officially called Tejas Mk-II. That's what noob media outlets use either Tejas or LCA Mk-II but in reality, HAL and ADA are currently terming it as MWF (Medium Weight Fighter). They'll give it a name after prototype testing

Length the fuselage put canards change engines

If this not a new jet then no jet aircraft are new since the f16 came in

Well the core design originated from LCA albeit with the addition of Canards and usage GE's F-414 engine. The other new tech being integrated like the indigenous Uttam AESA radar, BEL avionics and EW suite, cockpit etc are being currently tested on LCA's SP versions which is why ADA doesn't expect the same scale rigorous testing on the MWF. Regarding manufacturing of fuselage, airframe components and wings...they're being given to the same private firms as the LCA

Which weapons mark 2 will be carrying?
Any weapon in our inventory, be it Indian/Russian/Israeli origin can be integrated onto the MWF. The take away is MWF has more hardpoints over the LCA due to it's larger airframe and wing size.
Wnlarged fuselage it means its a new fighter and requires much more testing
We developed state of the art wind tunnel testing facilities over the course of LCA project. Yeah, LCA did take quite a while but that helped shape our aerospace industry. We don't need to send our models elsewhere to get tested. All windtunnel tests have been completed for the MWF and design has been frozen. If you see Ananth Krishnan's Interview Series of HAL and ADA officials , metal cutting has begun for MWF's prototypes. It does require additional testing but not at the level of TEDBF being designed for IN which is an entirely new design from scratch
