I don't find much problem in this map. Real India is only in the west. North east is an unnatural appendage of India precariously connected with the mainland due to wedge like presence of Bangladesh. If Bangladesh was a hostile, militarily powerful state, then it would have been a real nightmare for Indian defence strategist considering that China is already looming large in the north.On economic front, north east is a small region both population wise and economy wise. It has a population of only 1/4th of BD due to it's rough, mountainous geography.Not much economic prospect unless large scale hydroelectricity build there.It is a neglected region in India and perhaps will continue to do so in future.In the south east, we share border with Myanmar and in the south, it is wide open sea.So Bangladesh is not as boxed up by India as you are implying.It is rather Indian north east is boxed up by Bangladesh.
