Manmohan Singh talks tough, says 'there cannot be business as usual' with P

I did not approve of Sushma's words..she could have used better choice of words. But it is not a state secret about MMS' crush with Pakistan and how it is clouding his judgement.

And that sadly says it all, since you judge him only because he tries to find a solution between Pakistan and India. It doesn't even matter if you like him or not, but don't look just at the things in front of you, but look at the greater picture!

What happend is of course tragic and is not justifiable, but any similar silly reaction by the government, would lead to a stop of the peace process and that's this goes, the more soldiers will die. I even think that it was done on purpose that no government official reacted on the matter so far and that the IA and IAF chief spoke about it. They had to be straight and direct towards Pakistan, but that doesn't matter much, since it's there job. A political reaction instead had caused much more problems then it gained us.
Moreover, the only reason that there is such a public outcry at the moment is, are the circumstances of the death of the soldiers, but the fact is, we have lost 91 soldiers last year and nobody made much about it. Not the media, not any politicians or somebody else and their death are as tragic as it is in these cases.
But politicians in such a position can't simply fall into emotions like we normal people, cause their reactions can decide about the lifes of 1000s or even or 100 000 soldiers.

I'd give one or two months before he goes back on his words and starts the "peace" process once again.

And what's the alternative? Scrap the peace process? Close the borders, increase the troops again or even go for war? Come on, that's exactly what certain people in both countries want and why things like this often happened when there were a peace process between the countries.

But you need a PM who knows how to work independently and can say what he thinks is right.

Buddy that's not possible in politics, especially not when you have a coaltion with many different parties on whom you are dependent on. Not even Obama with his single party can really say what he thinks whenever he wants. Politics is compromising and finding a midway to get what you want, be it with our opponents or even your allies. That's why you should never let blind yourself by a single person of one party, because at the end he/she is not important, but party pocilies are.

Agree with Sancho. Our media and some stupid politicians have created the situation. We have to keep the dialogue going.

Try it this time our response will be more notorious and brutal.

We have seen ur limits many times, other than ur brutal habits like beheading, mutilating and notorious cultures u are cowards.all these results to something like 16th December.

I think MMS conducts himself in a statesman like manner, he is the PM, he cant talk like others. Even if he was a warmonger, once he is PM he should have a dignified response.
How many people have seen any pakistani PM talking sh*t. Why do you expect our PM to talk sh*t then?

The peace process with Pakistan took pace when Vajpayee was in power but he/his government never showed more than required leniency towards our neighbors. I am all in for maintaining peace, however, there is a limit until where one can talk about peace. Try 110% to maintain peace but when time needed then give 100% to show we are a strong nation and won't be bullied by any unacceptable misadventures.

Its not that we all don;t want peace but peace has to be something that is in demand by all involved. Its not a one sided debate. You cannot sue for peace when the other is supporting actions to the contrary.

Why? What will it solve? We have been having stupid dialogue for 50 yrs! Waht has come out of it? What do you hope to gain? A border situation that is peaceful? Fine, then what about the supply and training of terrorists on their soil? What about weapons support to various groups in India? What about arms smuggling thru various points in India other than KAshmir. Come on guy wake up

A.Bihari, MMS all tried to take Nobel peace Prize, they want to do something big with pak and then claim Nobel Peace Prize, for Prize they can to against any national interest.

PAK needs trade and peace with India more then India need with PAK.

If India cut all trade link, All air Flights then it will increase the cost on PAK very much.

Our beautiful Army has already maintained and developed Pak economic system so that India is never our major trading partner.

It doesnt hurt us any bit if you close trade.

Now, if we close all air flight from & to India, India will protest like no tomorrow, and it will possibly be the last straw for bankrupt orgs. like Air India.

since when? you guys sound like Pakistan survives only on India's trade :coffee:

Anything that India produces, Pakistan produces as well.

In doing that, the Pakistan Army has maintained little trade with India.

Most of your points can be agreed upon what about the fact that Indian politicians and diplomats in all these years have been unable to produce a coherent policy regarding Pakistan. We either have complete silence on crucial things like 26/11 and the present kind of situations or sabre rattling with no results achieved at the end. There are analysts of all sorts crying hoarse that some how we are talking to Pakistan on all matters we want to talk and made them quiet on thorny issues. The truth is that the issues being brushed under the carpet are the ones to be ironed out.

You say that politicians shouldn't fall to emotions like common man, what was the reaction to 26/11 ?? while the opponents are kicking you at your home and you discuss things over chai biscuit there is some thing wrong.

Question to all experts out there and to you too sancho, are there only two options before India vis a vis Pakistan. Go all out or talk peace while getting a kick on our behind regularly?? Is our diplomatic intellegensia so hollow that we cannot find a middle ground where we can make them think that it would be costly for them to launch adventures against our civilians or military without provocation??

Which is not unusual for political parties, the once in government will play it calm at least in public, while there is much talk behind the scene, be it directly with Pakistan, or in case of 26/11 with the Russia, the US and Europeans. I know that many people in India thinks nothing was achieved in that regard, I see it very different, especially when you compare what the US achieved after 9/11! We did not went for war out of emotions, with the only gain that 100 000s civilians and several 1000s of their own forces died. We used the global outrage to put political and economical pressure on Pakistan. We brought Kasab to court and to justice. We got access to foreign intelligence reports wtr, even from Muslim countries. We are putting preassure on the US to get David Headly to court in India too...

In the few years we achieved a lot, compared to what the US achieved in nearly a decade and that especially because we followed a strong but smart policy political policy, instead of playing cowboys!

Dealing with Pakistan on political level is not that easy as it is with other countries. We all know how much influence the military and intelligence has at highest levels and with all the internal problems now, I don't expect they even bother too much about a solution. Infact they will take the war mongering from certain people on out side, as an excuse to slow down talks and the peace process again.

a middle ground where we can make them think that it would be costly for them to launch adventures against our civilians or military without provocation??

The option for this is by force, but that will hit us way more then them, because we all know that a war of 2 nuklear powers ends in a stalemate, or a loss for both sides. Politically, the only pressure we can put on them, is that what we do now, holding certain talks or visa deals, going to international courts (which won't bring much either), or get other countries to put pressure on Pakistan again.
