As i said before, Religions in general(Islam, Christianity, Hinduism etc included) are quite patriarch in nature. As such, a man and woman are not equal under religion, reason they always abide by different religious rules and laws.
Reason i said we should be honest and separate religion from state laws, government, that's the only way you can make both equal under the same laws. Else you will have problem justifying why man should be above woman

In Hinduism, there is no difference between a man and a women. They have always been equal.

In hindu society, inequalities arose due to circumstances, but the religion is pretty clear.
